Who else is bedsharing?

DS spends the beginning of the night in his crib and then joins us around 11pm-5am. Then he goes back in his crib until 6:30/7. We are also still night-nursing. People have started to look at me like I have 7 heads now that he's almost 16 months. Do I? Am I the only one in this boat?

Re: Who else is bedsharing?

  • I have no experience with a 17 month old but I just wanted to say congrats for making it that long breastfeeding. What a GIANT accomplishment! I also say, if it's working for you and your family, who cares what people think!

  • You are not alone. DS is 27 months old and comes in our bed sometime during the night if not all night. The only reason we are not night nursing anymore is b/c I have to feed DD at night. It's very interesting in our bed come midnight. :)
  • You are not alone. I'm right with ya ; )I miss nursing

  • Nope! I'm in that boat with you! 15 months and still bed sharing/night nursing.
  • Thanks ladies. No one ever gave me any crap for it until recently. Even my mom! She had a few drinks in her and told me DS was too old to be nursing and too old to be in our bed. :(  And then friends of ours we hadn't seen in a while had the same reaction this weekend. Tried to give us all sorts of advice to get him out of the bed, stop night-nursing, weaning. I was like, um, I didn't ask but thanks!
  • DS bedshares with us full-time. But, since we have the crib set up as a side-car now, I told DH that if it ever comes up he can honestly say DS sleeps in his crib most of the time. Not that it should come up, since it's nobody's business!

I think even my relatively crunchy family NP was surprised that DS still nurses every night, but he's far from the only 1 year old I know that does. Once a night doesn't bother me at all!

  • 21 months, still nursing and bedsharing.
  • Jack starts off in his crib around 9pm - and by midnight I go get him (and - he's still asleep!!), sling him over my shoulder, and put him in bed with me for the rest of the night.  Then we sleep until about 8am.

At my in-laws over X-mas - he was in his pack n play (same room) so I left him in there and he slept one night until 5am on his own!  He would likely do the same at home or close to - but I like going and grabbing him and he doesn't wake up (and if  he does "sort of" wake up later in the night while in bed with me, I'm right there to gently shush him back to sleep.)  I love bedsharing and have ZERO plans to discontinue anytime soon.  He is my snuggle bug!!

    Wheee!
