High-Risk Pregnancy

Has Aldomet worked for anyone?

250mg three times/day, now up to 4 times/day! Doesn't seem to be bringing it down...last reading was 170/90.

Frustrating!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Has Aldomet worked for anyone?

  • I was put on Aldomet at 30 weeks when my reading was 150/90.  I had a history of severe pre-e and HELLP in my first son's pregnancy.  I was taking 500 mg 2X per day.  It brought my BP down to a high/normal level, usually 130/80-85.  I was told specifically by my MFM that they weren't trying to completely "right" my blood pressure (although if it did that, they wouldn't object, obviously).  They were just trying to "keep things at bay."

My BP spiked every now and then, but usually was pretty consistent at 130/80 until I delivered at 38 weeks, 5 days.

So....I guess it worked for me?

  • well this is a great question and I too was wondering the very same thing..this is my first pregnancy and I am almost 34 weeks. I have been on Aldomet since about week 14 500 mg 2X per day and was switch to 3X per day about a month ago..I check my readings twice a day and they are usually about 115/90..the top number has been pretty good but the bottom number keeps inching higher.  I have a doctor appt Monday...so we shall see what the next step is...So not sure if it is or isnt working for me...I would think with such a high does three times a day my bp would be super low but its not...soo....
