ugh...alcoholism is horrid

My "uncle" (a family friend/neighbor to my Grandparents who has known me for my entire life) has pretty much shot his health to hell. He was such a strong man, despite the drinking, for a long time. But now it has all caught up with him=( He is having problem with his blood. I guess his blood is clumping together and is causing problems in his vessels.

I am so sad for him. He is such a great man. He helped my Grandparents out SO much over the years.

It is a fine line. I know people in their 60s and 70s who have quit and live a long time. Hope he can change. I am sure it is hard, especially for the functional alcoholic, which it sounds like he is.

he is such a functioning alcoholic. Which, like you said, makes it harder for him to change, as he hasn't hit a rock bottom in a long time. I hope this health scare opens his eyes.

I am so very sorry, breezee. My godfather was an alcoholic. He was like an uncle, and I always called him and his wife (my godmother) my uncle and aunt. And their boys my cousins. He was a very high functioning alcoholic. I ADORED this man. I'm not going to bring you down with the story, but I will tell you that he broke all of our hearts in the end. It truly is a terrible thing.
