2nd Trimester

Anyone else already unconfortable?

I am having a hard time getting comfortable while laying down and my back really takes a beating when I have been standing for a while. I just started feeling like this the last week and I am almost 23 weeks. Anyone else feeling like this and does anyone have any suggestions?

Sidenote: have any of you tried one of those support belts? Thoughts, reviews?? If I want to get one do I have to get a perscription from my doc to make sure insurance cover's it?

Re: Anyone else already unconfortable?

  • Wear comfortable shoes even around the house.  I have found that the support really helps with back pain.  I was also told to strech!

I woke up 3 times throughout the night last night with horrible stabbing back pain that radiated up and down my left side.  DH called Dr around 8am and she said to go into L&D b/c is sounded like a kidney infection or kidney stone.

Embarrasingly, it turned out to be just muscle tightness...hard to swallow though b/c it was terrible pain.  I feel dumb for being such a drama queen!  I guess it is God's way of prepping you for child birth.

Dr. thought though it could still be kidney issues and to come back in if it continues.

  • It only gets worse.  Sorry.  i have been doing yoga and a lot of stretching.  It helps a lot with the back pain.  I've noticed that I go thru phases of being ok when i lie down and being horribly uncomfortable.  It helps to sleep with a few pillow under my head so I'm not flat and also one between my knees.  HTH!

  • Sometimes. My sciatica was really starting to bug me, so I'm seeing a chiropractor now. I also try to take my time when getting up from the floor or a low chair. I'm not as far as you though, so I imagine it's different.
  • Prenatal yoga & a snoogle may help.

  • I work for a Medical Supply store and maternity belts don't have a hicpic code so we can't bill insurance for them and you don't need a perscription to buy one off the shelf. They run $55.00 and up.
  • Yes yes I am!! The past two nights I haven't slept good at all!! I have been looking at the support belts/bands but I think that it will have to be something that I would have to try and just not get and hope it works.....I know I know that I have a long road of head of me if my back is bugging me already!! I am also showing quite a bit already!!

Hope that your back starts feeling better or you find a comfee position!!

  • Yoga (even just a video at home), chiropractor and pregnancy pillow.  Got a snoogle for Christmas and it has made such difference for my sleeping!

  • One of interns recently was also pregnant.  She had been having a lot of issues with discomfort and her doc recommended one of the supports that go over the shoulders like suspenders.

I find my body pillow has been great since I started getting sciatica pain the last week or so.  Stretching and heat help some, too.  I noticed my center of gravity changed a lot in the last week or so and as time passes my back is feeling better so maybe it's partly adjusting to the new posture from extra weight out front?  GL!

  • Just thought I'd let you know...I was at Burlington Coat Factory today, and I saw the support belts there, they were like $20. I'm sure you could find one on craigslist as well...they look like they'd help! I'm uncomfortable mostly because my stomach holds about 3 bites lately! lol
