If you had a scheduled section vs VBAC

We have decided that a VBAC is not the option for us for a number of reasons - so we are planning to have a scheduled section.  The risk is just not worth it for me.  DH and I have researched and discussed it and made the decision together.   I have nothing against anyone that wants to do a VBAC, it's just not for us.  So, why do people feel the need to try and make me feel bad or change my mind about my decision??

Re: If you had a scheduled section vs VBAC

  • I had a scheduled c-section with Danica instead of a v-bac because it was easier to plan who would keep Halee since she was only 17 months at the time.  I had a few people who tried to make me feel bad but most people agreed with me.  Let other people think what they want.  It is your body and your baby and you know what is best.  I am glad I had another c-section with her.

  • because everyone always feels the need to have an opinion about everything.  Don't worry about it-do what's best for you...end of story.  I had a VBAC and believe me, I got opinions all in the other direction.

  • I loved my scheduled c-section for DD. It went great and recovery was better than the first time! Screw the naysayers- good luck withyour baby.
  • I was going to try for a VBAC for my second pregnancy.  Then that pregnancy ended in a miscarriage.  Losing a baby made me realize how real the risks were and I knew that it wasn't worth it for me.  I had a scheduled c-section with dd2 and I couldn't be more happy and at peace with that decision.

Do what is right for you and your family.  Good luck and I wish you a healthy delivery.

Edited to say:  Of course the miscarriage was unrelated to my desire for a VBAC.  I just realized that I didn't want to take any risks with my third pregnancy because I had already lost one baby.

  • I would love to have a VBAC, my doc would love for me to have a VBAC.  However, from all of the IF testing/ultrasounds/x-rays we've done, I found out I have an oddly shaped uterus, which is probably the reason why DS#1 was breech.  It's very likely my next pregnancy will result in a breech baby as well.  So, we'll do the scheduled section and I won't feel guilty about it for one second.  My first scheduled one was a breeze, so now I know what to expect.,

  • When the OB told me I had to have a C-sect after hours and hours of labor with not progressing past 9.5 cm, I begged her to cut me for a VBAC.  Now going into #2, I am going to have a repeat C.  My OB was pleased with my decision after they found out that the reason for Csec #1 was Failure To Progress.  DS was 8lbs, 13.5oz a week early and I fully expect #2 to be a 9 pounder.

She said that most FTP deliveries result in repeat C's even if a VBAC is attempted.....nobody has questioned me or even said a word about my decision.  Unless the criticizers are going to have your baby for you or deal with all of the pain/issues afterwards, tell them to buzz off!

  • If it makes you feel better, my Dr. won't even do a VBAC.  She said that it's so dangerous that if you've been cut before you're getting cut again.  Actually, there's not a Dr. in this town that will do it.

...granted this is a very small town...

People just like to stick their noses where they don't belong.

I had a VBAC and heard so many comments about how I was making the wrong decision and that I was putting myself and my baby at risk.

You just have to do what you feel is right for you and your child and try to ignore the nay-sayers. :)

This....everyone has an opinion...and they never seem to be what you believe!!!

Honestly, I would cut the people off before they can say too much and just make it seem like you are totally crazy...."well, I just CAN NOT imagine stretching my vagina like that.....Disgusting!  Plus, since I'll be getting the mommy make-over plastic surgery in a few years...you know the one where they give you a tummy tuck and boob job plus lipo where needed...I just don't mind the tiny little scar....its nothing compared to the pain I'll have after that plastic surgery!!!"  or something else totally off the wall...it will shut people up quick.

  • I also just cut people off with, "The cuts already been made; just open it up again". No one ever said a word after that. Now I'd like to try a VBAC if we have a 3rd, but DH is against it. His reasons are that it will "stretch" everything out when it doesn't need to. Ugh, men.
