I have DS's on the passenger side. I would have preferred the middle but the way our middle seat is shaped (it sort of humps up) didn't allow for the car seat to be sit securely. When baby #2 arrives, I'll move DS to the driver side.
In my car it is in the passenger side (the instruction manual for that car says NOT to put it in the middle). In DH's truck it is in the middle, which works out great because you can put the front seats back really far that way....but....I will have a hard time getting the baby/seat out...it is just too far for me to reach. So if I am alone I wont take the baby in the vehicle.
the safest is in the middle. (i guess unless your instructions tell you differently) you can ask chp so properly install for you and they'll know. ours is in the middle and you get use to it.
I put mine in the middle b/c I am very short and its the only place I can even remotely see it. The instructions were for anywhere in the car and I don't have that hump thing in the way.
Check your owners manual and get it inspected by your local police or whom ever does it. Honestly what is more convenient for you isnt necessarily what is safest. For almost 3 years I have been putting her in the middle or walking around to get her out of the right side because that is what was safest in the cars I had while having DD. DD will get moved behind me and DS will go on the passenger side.
Middle is the safest, but I don't want to break my back leaning in to get the carseat with the baby in it. (We have an SUV, the middle may be more doable with a car.)
I wanted mine behind the passenger seat because it was a little easier to get at, but when I went to have it installed at the local children's hospital they said I should have it in the middle if possible. We'll try it for a while and if it is too difficult to get in and out we'll move it. We had my niece in it this weekend and it was fine in the middle.
we put it behind the passenger seat b/c if it was in the middle or behind the driver my husband wouldn't be able to drive the car b/c of the room it took up and where he'd need the seat to be. i think it might be like that b/c we are using his car....which is a '97 b/c it's a 4-door and i have a 2-door civic.....so we opted to use the 4-door car; maybe it it was a newer car there would've been more room.
CHP said to put in on driver's side if center won't work. Driver's side is safer than passenger because in an accident you'll naturally turn the car to protect yourself as much as possible making YOUR side the safest.
Re: where are you putting your car seat??
