3rd Trimester

do you always loose a mucus plug?

I am just wondering if you always loose a mucus plug well before or even close before your water breaks?

Re: do you always loose a mucus plug?

  • Nope, some people don't lose it, or at least never see it. And only about 10% of pregnant women have their water break at home during early labor.
  • I don't know for sure...but I do know that not everyone will KNOW they lost their mucous plug, because sometimes it comes out very slowly over a period of days/weeks, and seems like normal discharge.  So not everyone realizes that it is happening.

  • nope, and a lot of the time you don't lose it until you're well into active labor
  • My OB told me yesterday that my water can break without me losing my mucus plug, or even being dilated.

  • My water broke at 10:30am today, baby boy was here at 6:34pm and I never saw my mucus plug prior.
