My older son was never interested in, nor attached to, any kind of lovey.
My little one uses my hair as his lovey. I'm over it, frankly. But when I give him something else to grab onto, he throws it and reaches for my hair. When he is denied the hair of joy (tm), he throws a full on hissy fit.
So ... what am I doing wrong? And he's 10 months now ... is it too late?
(we've tried baby dolls, soft cloth toys, things specifically for loveys, etc ...)
Re: how do you introduce a lovey?
Maybe it is a little late though I'd like to think it is never too late! I introduced a lovey to LO when she was about 5 months old. I just simply gave it to her every time she napped or went to bed. I would lay it next to her in the crib and eventually she started to cuddle with it. It's adorable. I hope she continues to find it comforting as she gets older.
What if you just try to put it next to him every time he goes to sleep? Don't force him to hold it or anything, just lay it there and see if he gravitates toward it or starts to expect it.
I just read in a sleep training book that introducing a lovey between 9-12 months is NOT too late!
Like pp said make it smell like you! Put it in your shirt for a few hours and that will do the trick, or so says the book. Also, introduce this item with routines such as sleeping or eating. Another thing is a lovey with tags may also help LO like it better since some babies tend to love tags!
We got ours from target and it has a bunch of winnie the pooh tags on it.
A wig?
Just kidding. My DD just attached to one of the 87 stuffed animals we had, thus far, at 9 months, DS shows no interest. DD attached about 8 months. I have some things in his crib, but he doesn't seem interested.
