2nd Trimester

Babymoon?

I really wanna plan one for DH and I. Our DD will be 3 in April and I'm due the end of June/early July. When is the best time to go? I was thinking the end of April for our 5 yr anniversary. I'll be about 7 mo then. I only wanna spend around $1000 for maybe 3-4 days. Any suggestions? I'm wondering if we should stay in the states in case there was an emergency at least I would speak the same language but I'm really wanting to go to a beach and just relax. We are trying to pay off our credit cards before this new baby so we really need to stick to a decent budget so we can pay cash. I was thinking of a cruise but then I thought maybe they had a limit on how far into pregnancy the cruise lines would let you crusise. I guess I'm asking for ideas here? Where are you going?

Re: Babymoon?

  • Ooh - interesting question!  I googled and found:

To sail with Carnival or Royal Caribbean, for example, a mom-to-be must be no more than 23 weeks along at any time during the cruise. Specific policies vary, however, so check with the cruise line before booking.

Even if the cruise line doesn't require it, it's a good idea to carry a letter from your healthcare provider stating your due date, your fitness for travel, any medical conditions, and any medications you're taking. That way you can avoid unpleasant surprises at the boarding dock.

  • I have been researching our babymoon all week!  If you search on the internet, a lot of places have babymoon packages (that include things like prenatal massages and dinner certificates and breakfast in bed.)  We have only really budgeted for an overnight (maybe two) so I think we are going to an inn in Washington DC.  I probably would not feel comfortable flying now (I am 7 months,) but if I had $1000 maybe I would go to a resort in the Poconos or the Carolinas.  Good luck!
  • Many airlines and cruiselines want you to be before your 7 month before traveling so you will have to watch out for that.  I think if you are flexible on your dates, you could get some great cruises (I think you are saying $1000 for both people right?).  Anywho, the good news is April is good time to travel because it as the end of peak season (winter) and right before hurricaine season starts (May).  Another nice bet in the states is Florida or the southwest (NV, AZ, NM)

  • Cruise sounds like a good option - you said you only wanted 3-4 days right? $1000/couple would really be stretching it for a week cruise.

You could always do a Florida thing too, if you wanted to stay in the States.

We're leaving for our babymoon tomorrow - a week in St. Lucia! woot woot. I wish I could have taken it when I was *a little* further along, but this is just how the vacation time worked out :)

  • I just found air fare to tampa,FL in april for $94 each way pp. So that would be about $400 for airfare. I am wondering it's warm enough in April to go to the beach in April. We went in Febuary one year and it was only like 60 degrees which wasn't warm enough for me. I'm gonna have to check out hotel deals now in Tampa, we have friends that live there we could stay with for free about an hour away from the beach but they have 2 little girls and I really wanna resort/hotel feel and kid free since we will be very busy with ours in the next months after the trip. Any one stayed in Tampa on the beach?
  • So jealous yet happy for the St. Lucia trip.  I am dying to go there.  Anyway I am doing it super cheap.  DH's cousin who fixed us up in the first place has a beautiful ranch near Sante Fe with plenty of spas nearby so I am paying for my flight and spending money.  3 more weeks to my babymoon!

  • We went to Vegas at 18 weeks.  I am glad we went early because the flight was tough for me already since I am tall....adding a small belly only added to the torture....I couldn't imagine a bigger belly.

Be careful with flight and cruise rules as others have said with pregnancy and make sure you bring an approval from your doctor just in case.

    GL!

Where are you guy staying?  We went there last year for New Year's and it was amazing!  We stayed at Anse Chastanet, and we loved it!  You guys will have a blast.  They have such awesome food there.

  • Mrs Braun back to your question about Tampa.   I live in FL for 5 years both in Northern and South FL and by April outdoor temps are well into the 80s.  The water temps may still be cool but you will definitely feel warm enough for a quick dip.  I do have personal experience going to Sanibel Island (a little further south) in April and I remember that it was Hot, I got sunburned and I was definitely in the water.  I also highly recommended Sanibel, Captiva in general.  Nice, can be affordable if you shop around and I did my mini-moon there after my wedding.  Regarding Tampa specifically, not a whole lot going on unless you head to St Pete, Clearwater or Treasure Island.

  • We just went on a cruise to the Bahamas for my birthday 2 weeks ago..I am also 14 weeks, We ended up turning it into a bday/babymoon trip..They WILL NOT let you on the boat if at any point in your cruise you are over 24 weeks. I had to get a letter signed by my doctor stating how many weeks I was so they wouldnt think I was lying about being less pregnant than I am. So if you want to cruise keep that in mind :)
