3rd Trimester

Tx girls.... clothes ??

not necessarily just for Texas girls, but with this crazy weather im curious what kinds of infant clothes youre planning for the first few months.  im due early February and most of what i have already has been handed down from my sister who had her lil boy in september, so there is very little warm clothing.... im wondering if i should just get more or just use the few things i have and shop later if needed... suggestions??

i do have a few jackets, long sleeve onesies, pants and of course sleepers and sleep and play outfits (w/ the feet attached), but the rest is all short sleeve/sleeveless and shorts.

  • We're just winging it, for now.  I've got several long sleeves, pants & jackets/hoodies for him and if he needs more I can always run out and get him some.  And we'll always have a nice warm blanket on standby :)

  • I'm in northern Florida, so I have this dilemma too. I have short sleeve onesies, sweaters, pants, sleepers (fleece and not). We're also moving to Missouri within 4 weeks of my EDD, so LO needs warmer clothes too. One thing we have is, gosh I don't know what it's called, but it's like this big, fluffy fleece body suit/sac. It doesn't have feet, but it covers the whole body. I guess it's kind of like a fleece snowsuit, but no seperate legs. Lol. Does that make sense?
  • We're in TX and having a girl in February.  I did buy two "snow suit" type things (but cotton material, not real snow suit material) to wear over outfits that may not be warm enough.  But I mostly plan to keep her in sleepers- I've got quite a few fleecy footed sleepers and plan to buy even more.  DS was born in Sept. and lived in cool sleepers and onesies his first few months, there just weren't many times that he needed to be dressed up as a newborn.

  • Honestly the first few months I only dress my babies in sleepers.  They are so tiny at that age that little "outfits" just don't really work.  It's incredibly hard to get a tiny pair of jeans and a sweater on a squirmy 1 month old.  So they live in Onesies and sleepers.  I've got some fleece sleepers, thermal and just cotton ones.  Babies really don't need to be all bundled up, they get too hot to quickly.  The rule of thumb is this, in Winter babies only need to more layer than you do.  If their tummy gets warm and damp from sweat then they are dressed too warmly.  When you take them out of the house, just a nice warm blanket over their carrier should suffice, especially here in Texas.  You don't need to bundle them all up, plus you shouldn't put them in anything bulky when they are in their car seat anyway.

All of my children have been born this time of year and by the time they were in 3 to 6 mo clothing they were wearing stuff more suited for the Spring.

    Hope this helps.

  • We're just planning on long sleeved onesies, socks and sleepers. We dont plan on taking her out for the first couple of months anyways (call me paranoid, whatever.) She's got outfits starting at around 3 months which is when Spring should arrive. :)

  • I've got several long sleeve onesies and sleepers.  I'm sure it will work out, but your're right, it's hard to know what you'll need.  TX weather can go from one extreme to the other so quickly.
