Babies on the Brain

Anna

Do you consult with your dad on decisions or just your doctor?

I would think it would be so hard to not run and get 2nd opinions from him all of the time.  I know I call my mom everytime the doctor tells me something to see if she agrees.

Re: Anna

  • I consult with both - and usually a couple other doctors in the practice as well. I have a few complicated medical issues (including history of blood clots) that make it all more complicated so I try to get several opinions.

    This is me too.

Even before I agreed to let my doctor do my surgery this summer, I had her send my mom copies of everything.

It isn't that I don't trust the doctors...I just want lots of opinions before I let someone make those decisions.

  • I may or may not have asked 6 doctors their opinions on taking vicodin for a migraine during pregnancy - and even after they all assured me it was fine I still was hesitant.

    LOL.

Ok...you have me beat.  I'm not that bad ;)

I asked a bunch of people at the hospital (probably around 5 or 6) if it was okay for me to take oxycodone while pumping.  Every single person said, "do you really think we'd give it to you if it weren't okay for the baby?"  I'm sure they thought it was nuts.

My biological father, who I have had zero relationship with for over 20 years, is an OB.  We kind of got back in touch after Jillian died, and I guarantee I'm going to drive him crazy during my next pregnancy.

I will absolutely be the same way. Especially since I'm allergic to percoset which seems to be the "drug of choice" on the boards post c/s.

I had to take the Rx tylenol because I am allergic to aspirin and all of its derivatives.

    It was like taking nothing.

  • Preppy - so you can't take any of the others? When I had my last surgery (when we discovered the allergy) they just put me on dilaudid instead which was a wonder drug. But I have no idea if they will do that for a c/s and/or if it's safe to BF while on it. I should probably research that.
  • I should add I do not / can not take any NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aleve, etc) so it will be an interesting recovery. Pretty much tylenol or narcotics are the choices.

I am not so sure about Dilaudid, but I was told Rx Tylenol was the best they could do.

I can take very few pain meds.  I am even pretty sure I can't have an epi, so I would need to be put completely under for a c/s.

I am highly allergic to aspirin and all of its derivatives {Aleve, etc}.  They found the allergy when I was 3.

I have to wear a little medical bracelet and everything.  I usually don't take pain meds, because I can't be certain they are "allowed."
