2nd Trimester

Bye Bye New Years Day Brunch :-(

Like many of the late 2nd tris on the board, I am getting to the point of thinking about what I can't have during pregnancy a lot more these days.  My friend recently turned me on to the tradition of a fabulous champagne brunch with mimosas, smoked salmon, eggs benedicts and other stuff I can't have right now.  She has the fabulous brunches every year and I have made the last few but will not be able to partake this year.  I was never one to get drunk on NYE but this was a nice little thing that I looked forward to.   Sigh... Sad

I'm also thinking about the person who posted about Creme Brulee yesterday.  I passed on this last Saturday night because I thought it had partially cooked egg whites in the recipe.

If you can't tell I am a food facing a bit of withdrawl...

Creme brulee is safe, it is baked in the over at 300 degrees for about 30 minutes.  (then cooled, then torched, then cooled again).  The heat would kill any salmonella in the eggs!  Eat away!

If you're following advice about not eating undercooked eggs, then eggs benedict is a no-no b/c of the runny yolks and eggs in the hollandaise sauce. To each their own though!

  • My best friend made mimosa's for me and another friend and used sparkling water, it was so good!

This, plus a very small, weak mimosa (if I was 20+ weeks).

ehh, my overly cautious dr never mentioned eggs to me. as long as they're pasturized they're fine. plus if the OP is going to a friend's house, she could just ask to have eggs cooked a bit longer and skip the hollandaise. no need to forget about brunch alltogether!

Just fyi - most eggs are not pasteurized. In fact, very few are. There's only one brand I've found that is and they are hard to find.
