TTC After a Loss

$$$$ Question - Clomid

DH has already said that we're not going to do anything extrodinary in order to get pregnant again because with two kids already it's just a little selfish (not his words really, but lack of a better way of saying it).

I really think since my last m/c that my cycles are out of whack, I think I'm O'ing really late, and my LP is super short.  I'm going to try the b6 after this cycle, but I was wondering if Clomid because of my whacky cycles might work???  I guess I'm starting to freak out cause last month I had my + OPK by now and all other signs that I was O'ing, but so far this month nothing, but my chart last month was also whack.  A couple months before that I only showed to be 9 or so DPO before AF came.

Also how much does it cost per month usually???

I'm desperate here.

Re: $$$$ Question - Clomid

  • I dont know about clomid's costs, but I do know that there have been quite a few women I know who tried vitex first and had a good success rate.

  • I don't take Clomid, so take my words with a grain or 50 of salt, but I thought Clomid was to induce ovulation. If you are already ovulating, just late, I'd be afraid of Clomid making you Octomom v2.0
  • The purpose of clomid is to not make you O but to increase the number of follicles that can be potential eggs.  It will probably, however, help you O because your ovaries will be full with hopefully large follies.  When I used clomid I was on a release injection so that we could time it better for IUI.  Not sure if you are looking into something like that.

As for the cost...my insurance covered it with a $5 co-pay.  I am not sure how much if would cost if you had to pay out of pocket.

    Hope this helps!  GL

  • Thank you for the response.  I guess I'm wasn't 100% clear on the exact purpose of it.

  • I've always read that clomid is fairly inexpensive. Would your insurance cover any of it? What's your copay on that. I think generic runs $30 for a month. I think. I've never used it

This is something I would have to look into.

  • My insurance doesn't pay, but I am able to get a generic and it is only $9 a month for the 4 pills at target pharmacy. Not too bad in my opinion.
  • I ovulate normally every month as far as I can tell - maybe a little late though since it's like CD17-19 usually.  My RE put me on it this month for my IUI.  I only had 2 follies so no octomom issues.  I got the generic version and it was free with my insurance.

  • My cycles since my m/c have been WACKY and I took Clomid this month to help me ovulate--did the trick according to the bloodwork at my dr.'s but still don't think I am pregnant. (Got a negative test yesterday, but I am not giving up hope until I get AF)  My insurance wouldn't cover it, but thankfully it is only $26.

  • I did one Clomid cycle...BFN.  And it wad $20 at Walgreens with my insurance not covering it.  I have heard rumors that Walmart sells it for $5. GL

  • I need clomid to make me ovulate b/c of the PCOS. I paid $9 for a one month (5 pills) supply.

  • I didn't really need clomid but they put me on it for one month because my cycles were a bit long. Eventhough I got a bfp without it this time it still made me O early because I took it the cycle before. Heck it's worth a try, I think the egg is better when it comes out earlier, or so I read somewhere. Good luck!
  •  I get 100 mg at Target for $18.  My insurance doesn't cover it, but my FSA does!  Good luck!
