A rant, by J&T:
Locks of Love, while extremely popular (probably because it's fun to say), sells their wigs - they do not donate them to cancer patients.
Pantene Beautiful Lengths donates their wigs to women who have lost their hair. Wigs for Kids donates their wigs to children who have lost their hair. Neither make the recipients pay for the wigs, and they manufacture them on their own, whereas LoL upcharges the wigs they sell to pay a third-party manufacturer.
On top of all that, LoL takes in more donations
than they can use, so they give away the surplus hair to commercial wig companies
that then sell the human-hair wigs at full retail price to the
general public.
Re: The ugly side of Locks of Love
It was a big news story a few years back. I'm sure you can find the facts if you google it.
It's one of those stories that was cemented in my head.
The wiki of it
Good to know. Thanks for the info.
Like I said in the other post, I didn't know much about it. It was the only hair donation organization that I had heard of. I did know they didn't make the wigs for cancer patients, I read they were for children (18 and younger) with alopecia (sp?).

This!
it's a VERY sketchy organization, IMO.
Has been for quite some time.
It pissed me off so much when I first heard it that it's a permanent fixture in my memory.
Reading the wiki, with more info than I'd originally learned, pisses me off even more.
What a bunch of a-holes. Shame on them and their alliteration. They knew the name was catchy enough to hoodwink people.
