2nd Trimester

Advice for Newbie

This is my first pregnancy and I'm just starting my 2nd trimester. I'm finally feeling a little better and getting really excited about baby. Do you have any advice/stuff you wish you knew before about labor, delivery, the last months of pregnancy? Thanks for your help!!! Smile

Re: Advice for Newbie

  • For L&D advice I'd head to the boards where the babies have already been born.  ;)

    Congrats to you.

  • There wasn't a lot I wish I had known, but there was a lot I was glad I did know.  I was glad I had taken a hospital class, so I knew what to expect once we got there (especially because my time there was really rushed!).  Really, though, as things come up in the last months of pregnancy, there's always Google or asking specific questions on the boards, because everyone is different.  Just find out as much as you can about labor and delivery, and newborn care, ahead of time, and you'll be fine.

  • Braxton hicks are perfectly normal,  if you go to the hospital too early(aka not dialated enough) they will send you home(and that was at the mayo clinic), don't even think that you'll be leaving the hospital in pp clothes even if you can still pull them on but not button them at 40 weeks, get some huge pads b/c you will be bleeding A LOT for awhile after your LO is born, do not let yourself get constipated after you have your LO-metamucil is your best friend,  the first poo after LO comes is really freaking scary especially if you delivered vaginally-again metamucil, your birth plan my just be a goal rather than a reality-your never know what will happen in labor or how your body will react.  Those are the major things IMO.
