Appetizer/dip ideas?

I am invited to a New Years get together tomorrow night and I am going to make either some kind of dip or appetizer. Something simple and easy to make. Someone is already making Taco Dip and Rye Bread Boat. Any ideas?

Re: Appetizer/dip ideas?

  • How about some homemade spinach dip in the middle of a hawaiian roll?  Or maybe with chips?  (mmm...I love hawaiian bread and spinach dip!)

What is a rye bread boat?

It is Rye Bread with a dill kinda tasting dip. It is pretty popular in my area. It seems like every party has one around here. It is pretty good if you like dill and rye bread.

  • My favorite is to mix a block of cream cheese and your favorite can of chili (like Stagg) and fry it in a pan.....  serve with tortilla chips...  It is sooooo good!  You can keep it warm in a small crockpot.
  • I love spinach/artichoke dip with baguette and/or tortilla chips. You can find tons of easy recipes for it online.

  • I have a super delish recipe for spinach/artichoke dip if you want it.  It's served hot though so if you have far to travel it might not work unless you cook it there.

Edit:  Or also I have a SUPER easy recipe for corn/blackbean/avocado salsa.

  • Two things i love:

get cream cheese and see if yo can find chipotle raspberry sace (usually by condiments) and pour it over the cheese....

Texas caviar: black eyed peas (two cans), diced scallions and wishbone Italian dressing. Great with fritos!

  • i have 2 suggestions, and they both come out great.

    Cheeseball

large can dried beef/chipped beef chopped

    1 small onion chopped fine

    2 pkg cream cheese softened

    1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

    1 tsp worchestchire sauce ( I can't spell that)

1/4 to 1/2 cups chopped pecans, chopped (optional).

Mix it all together (except for nuts) very well, shape it and wrap in plastic wrap and chill.   Before serving, coat in nuts and serve with crackers.

    Marinated Vegetable Salad

1 can french cut green beans (drained)

1 can field peas/black eyed peas (drained)

1 large can shoepeg corn (drained)

    1 onion, chopped

    1 green pepper, chopped

--Put all of these in mixing bowl

--On the stove, combine and bring to low boil

    1/3 cup vegetable oil

    3/4 cup sugar

    3/4 cup white vinegar

    salt, pepper (to taste).

--Pour the liquid over the veggies and stir. Chill overnight. Serve cold with Tostitos Scoops. This sounds like something I'd never eat, but I LOVE it (even when I'm not pregnant!!)

    Hope this helps!!

  • My new favorite appetizer is bacon wrapped water chestnuts!  They're very easy to make and a definite crowd pleaser!  Just buy the whole water chestnuts, wrap in bacon and anchor with a toothpick.  Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes then flip them and repeat.  Once bacon is crisp top with brown sugar and throw back in the oven until the sugar melts forming a glaze.

I had these at a Christmas party then made them for our family Christmas and they were a big hit!  Easy to make too!

I neeeeeeeeed to try this NOW

  • I've recently discovered a chicken enchilada type dip.  It's really good.

    2 cans chicken breast

    16 oz. tub sour cream

8 oz. mayo (do not use Miracle Whip)

    1 can chopped green chilis

    2 jalepenos

2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

Mix together and put in oven at 350 until hot.  Stir and serve.  Great with tortilla chips.

  • Buffalo chicken dip...and it's a HUGE hit at every party I've ever taken it to...

    Buffalo Chicken Dip

1 pkg (8oz) cream cheese (low fat or regular)
? cup bleu cheese dressing (non-fat or regular)
    ? cup Franks Red Hot
    ? cup crumbled bleu cheese
1 large chicken breast (pulled apart in small pieces)

    Preheat oven to 350.

    Mix all ingredients together.

Bake for 20 minutes or until chicken mixture is smooth and warm all the way through.

Serve with celery or bread and crackers.

  • I make an artichoke dip (no spinach) that is ALWAYS a huge hit at parties- I make it all the time and it's super easy.  It's served warm/hot though, which makes travel tricky unless you can bake it when you get there.

    2 14oz cans non-marinated artichokes, drained

    1 cup mayo

    8 oz. shredded mozzarella

    1 cup shredded parmesan

garlic salt to taste (you won't need a lot)

Cut up the chokes into bite-sized (or smaller) pieces, then mix everything together in a big bowl.  Put into baking dish and bake at 350 for about 30 minutes or until cheese *just* begins to brown on top.

  • I make a lot of different chip dips, but DHs favorite is just mixing two tubs of cream cheese with salsa.  I put the cream cheese in a bowl and add salsa and mix it together until it looks to be a good consistency.  Then I add shredded cheese.  It's pretty yummy.

Another easy one - two blocks of cream cheese in a bowl.  Add a little bit of milk and mix with a mixer.  Keep adding milk until it's at an easy-to-spread consistency.  Spread on a platter/large plate.  Add one can of drained baby shrimp and one can of drained clams on top.  Top with one jar of Hoffman House shrimp sauce and garnish with dried parsley.  Serve with crackers.  It's a popular one with my family!

  • I second the Buffalo Chicken dip-otherwise known as Crack dip.  I have never had any left after a party.
  • If you want to bring a dip, def buffalo chicken dip.

Otherwise, easiest thing ever : sliced Roma tomatoes, sliced mozzerella, sprinkle olive oil, fresh basil, s&p over it.

  • It's not really a dip, but what about hummus? Always tasty, and you can make your own or easily buy it in a store. Comes in many flavors.
