Poll: R you wearing mostly maternity or reg.clothes but bigger?

Just curious. We have a gap outlet near my house and I went today. Old Navy Sweaters and Gap Sweaters for about $6 and $7 each. I've mostly just been buying these in mediums (granted they are the stretchy sweaters) and they've been working out really well for me so far! So much better than me spending $30 or so on sweaters at Motherhood Maternity, etc since I wear a sweater to work each day to school.

How about you? Do you wear mostly maternity clothes or regular clothes just in a bigger size???

Re: Poll: R you wearing mostly maternity or reg.clothes but bigger?

  • With pants I'm doing all maternity, but I still need to buy some jeans. And tops I'm doing both maternity and regular (but not bigger sizes, just my normal sizes but that will stretch for the bump).

  • Maternity pants, bigger or stretchy tops. (Maternity if it's a fitted blouse for work)

  • I'm only wearing wearing pants and mostly maternity tops unless I have a top or sweater that is long enough to cover the whole elastic band part of the pants.

  • I'm mostly in maternity at this point even though I'm told I have a small bump.  It may be because I wear mostly tailored clothes so they don't have much give. I'm also tall so shirts are never overly long on me. I still wear my pre preg jeans with an elastic which is fine as long as my shirt is long enough to cover.

  • I'm in all maternity clothes now.  My mom and MIL got me maternity clothes for the holidays and quadrupled my wardrobe!  I've been in nothing but maternity pants for a few weeks now.  So comfy!

  • I wear only maternity clothes and I use my husband's shirts as pajamas.
  • Regular clothes in a bigger size.
  • I just went today and bought some jeans in a size up. My normal ones just don't button and its uncomfy and the maternity jeans I have tried on are HUGE on me.....

  • Mostly maternity. I got some great deals on shirts at Old Navy in November, averaging $6-15 a piece. On pants I've gotten very lucky at Gap Maternity and have gotten all of my work slacks and cords for under $20 each. The most expensive things I've purchased are a maternity wrap dress (needed it for a funeral and it's styled so that it can be worn post-pregnancy) and a pair of jeans that came to $45 with a discount. I'd say in total I've spent $300 on my maternity wardobe and it should last me until near the end (when all that fits are tents) thanks to some great sale scores! It's soooo nice having clothes that fit and look good.
  • With pants, I'm only wearing maternity (other than leggings, which are my same pre-pregnancy size). For shirts, I'm wearing a mix of longer shirts in my regular pre-pregnancy size and some maternity shirts.

Right now, I wouldn't buy anything that is not maternity because I know my belly will only grow from here.

  • I just wore my regular jeans for the last time on Monday. I currently only have 2 pairs of Maternity pants so I need to get a few more pairs. I am still wearing all of my regular shirts. I purchased a few new sweaters on Black Friday, but got the next size up.

I'm still kind of living in denial that I need maternity clothes. Even the pants I got just have elastic waists, but no panels.

  • A bit of both. It's shocking to me what is happening to all of the maternity selection in retail. Other than motherhood and pea in the pod (which I think is too pricey for temporary clothes) I noticed Jc penney, Gap old navy and even walmart has taken maternity clothes out of some stores completely. It's ridiculous.

Old Navy has a good selection of reg. sizes that run big...I like their maternity jeans better than motherhood. The only prob with their clothes is sometimes they don't hold up well after washing.

  • I can still wear my pants with a bella band but for shirts I have just been purchasing a larger size. I can fit into a medium comfortably and it doesn't look ridicules. I have no plans to purchase maternity shirts until I absolutely have to.
  • I'm wearing maternity pants for work, I'm still suffering through my regular jeans with a belly band but that is only until my maternity jeans arrive in the mail!  As far as shirts go, I'm wearing a mix of maternity and extra long regular shirts.

  • I'm still wearing mostly my pre-pregnancy clothes. I can still wear a couple pairs of my pants without the bella band even. I wear a pair of maternity Gap jeans occasionally for comfort though. This is the longest I've ever made it into a pregnancy in my pre-pregnancy clothes. Hooray!
  • I have only one pair of maternity pants (jeans) and they are so comfortable but the are darn hot to be wearing atm, thank God for air conditioning LOL

I bought some new singlets a week or so ago that are designed to be baggy at the front, in a bigger size. Only $10 each (or about US$8.95)!! I have tops already that suit an expanding belly, but I haven't found any cheap maternity clothes here AT ALL. I mean KMart has a small range but never have my size left. I've been looking at the Old Navy website (because I went to one when we were in Hawaii and it was fantastic) and they have super affordable maternity tops and stuff but they don't ship to Australia. I can use another website to purchase for me online and post it to me but DH says it has to be worth it for the postage :(

So, in response to the actual OP lol currently mostly regular clothes in a bigger size.

  • I'm wearing a mix of both. I could probably get away with wearing all non-maternity clothes, but since I've already bought some maternity things, I feel like I should wear them. I have packed on some pounds in the past couple weeks, though, so I think my non-maternity days are limited anyway.

  • I'm in maternity pants now but the regular ones still work sometimes.  The maternity ones are just so comfortable.

I would suggest that you buy maternity tops because regular top often won't work later in pregnancy because they won't be long enough to cover your belly and the waistband of your pants.  I found myself constantly tugging at my shirts if I didn't wear maternity later in my pregnancy.

  • I wear mostly maternity, but did buy a couple of sweaters at ON just in a bigger size.  I also have a giant Corono hoody and Michigan sweatshirt that I wear when I'm lounging around, and of course they aren't maternity.  (hahaha for some reason the idea of a Corono maternity shirt made me giggle!)

  • A mix of both.  I am in maternity pants for sure, and I have been buying maternity tops at Gap when they are on sale (which, typically the entire maternity section of the Gap near our house is always on sale.  It's weird, but I'll take it!).  However I still buy some basic pieces at Forever 21, just in a bigger size - tanks to wear underneath stuff, leggings, etc.  Every now and then I'll buy a cute tunic or something from there, too.  I'm carrying really high so I need the length of maternity tops, or else the elastic band on my pants will show....otherwise I could just go a size up in "normal" clothes.
  • Maternity pants, regular tops... but I only have a little bump. I do plan to wear my regular tops as long as possible as I don't really like most maternity tops.
