2nd Trimester

What infant carrier/carseat are you getting?

We have a Britax Blvd. for our dd and I want an infant carrier for the new baby (we never used an infant carrier with our dd)  It seems like everyone has the Graco Snugride, but when I look at reviews on safety, it seems like a few others rank more safely. I am pretty much just interested in getting the safest one possible and will get the necessary stroller to work with it. Here is the link to the Consumer Reports ratings:

What did you all end up getting and why?

Re: What infant carrier/carseat are you getting?

  • Oh good, I'm glad someone asked this!  I hate those bulky travel systems, but it might just be the easiest way to go..... *sigh*

  • We have a Chicco and LOVE it.  It has excellent safety ratings too.  We'll be using it again for DD.

DS is in a Britax Roundabout right now (one of the best safety rated convertible car seats) and I plan to buy him a booster seat and move baby girl up to the Britax when she's ready.

  • We are getting the maxi cosi mico.  I've heard really good things about it and I played with it in store and really liked it.  First, its really light weight.  Second, it was very easy to click in and out of the base.  HTH!

Light is good! It looks like this one and the Chico get really good safety ratings.

  • Baby Bargains rates the Snugride very highly and we're interested in the fact that they make them for 32 inch/in maximums so it's the top of my list to look at.

Look at it this way, they all technically meet safety standards, they have to, so take "this one is safer" for what it's worth.

  • We're going with the Chicco KeyFit... still not sure if we'll do the 22 lb or 30 lb... seems like you're never gonna carry around a 22 OR 30 pound baby in the carrier, and we'll be switching to a convertible carseat once the baby is that big anyway, so I'm thinking we'll stick with the smaller of the two.

Just a heads up, they are also rated to length so once you have a baby that is longer than the rated length you'll have to switch them out of the infant seat, which for many babies can be long before you reach the weight limit (say, at 6 months of age).

  • I like the peg perego. However, the chicco did feel lighter and has better ratings. Now undecided.
  • we got a graco snugride.  good safety ratings (i agree with above poster about standards), lightweight, and i got a deal on an older pattern.
  • We are getting the Baby Trend Flex-Loc system. The one we want is a good deal and it has good ratings.

  • We plan on doing the Graco Snugride 35 - the newest model is now rated up to 35 lbs and fits/attaches to all the same bases as the Snugride 32.  Since DH is 6'2" and baby is already measuring big, I figure we may need to extra weight and height limits.

  • We had the graco metrolite travel system w/ DS. We had to move him out of the infant seat and into the Britax Roundabout at 6 months. He was just getting too long, plus too heavy to carry around in an infant seat. My suggestion is to definitely get something really light. DS was 16 lbs at 6 months and that doesn't seem like a ton, but when you are lugging around 16 lbs in an infant seat, its difficult!

  • We are going with the Chicco key fit.  We looked at them yesterday and that one seems to be the highest quality construction.  And it was super easy to use which helps unmechanical minded people like myself!
  • Here is our chicco keyfit we got for Christmas Stick out tongue I love it!

  • The Baby Trend carseats are rated really well for safety. Baby Bargians talks a little trash about their customer service and the weight of the seats, but they are very safe. That being said, we got a Graco Snugride because we got a sweet deal on it.
