So, DH and I were supposed to host a "pre-party" at our house before we went to dinner with friends on New Years Eve. Then we were all going to walk up to the restaurant, which is about a block and a half from our house, for our fancy dinner. Well, over the weekend DH and I began "nesting" which meant that we starting going through the stuff we needed to get rid of. Doing that stirred up so much dust and crap in the house that I have been having the most severe allergies I've ever had. We're talking staying in bed, doped up on Benadryl, totally debilitating allergies here.
So, I've been sick the past 3 days, which of course means that nothing else has been done with our house. Then, on Monday when we told my MIL that we had literally a room full of stuff we want to get rid of, she decided that we should have a joint garage sale........at MY house. She also had DH's grandma come in from 4 hours away to "help." So, now it's the day before NYE, I'm still feeling crappy, I have a house to clean and get party ready, a garage sale to get ready for, a grandma in town to "help," and a DH who is at work and has gotten several new files over the past two days (he's a lawyer who has his own law practice). I also have tons of lesson planning and other school stuff to do before school starts up next week. So, I'm feeling very overwhelmed and I think I want to cancel the "pre-party" and just have everyone meet us at the restaurant. But is that totally selfish!?
Re: NYE Rant..... (long)
I'd cancel the garage sale, since mom took it upon herself to plan it at your house.
Naive question - is it common to have garage sales in January? Around here, it's usually Mayish and Septemberish, due to the weather.
Well, it's not super common, but not completely UNcommom either. The weather can be pretty mild here in Texas in January. But I would prefer to do it in the spring or fall.
With that said, I ended up in L&D tonight with extremely high blood pressure. So, we have canceled both the party and the garage sale. Hopefully, I'll still be able to go to dinner tomorrow, but I'll have to see what the doctor says in the morning.
