anyone get a call about needing antibiotic?

hi ladies,

does anyone know what infections they diagnose through your blood and urine tests at the first appointment?

my first appointment was last week. the nurse called yesterday (i didn't get the message until just now) saying "there's nothing wrong, but you need a perscription for an antibiotic." i will call tomorrow morning, but anyone know what the cause of that could be?

after the first appointment, i was diagnosed (by a regular doctor) with a sinus infection. is there any way they could tell i had a sinus infection from my blood work?  or would this be something else?

  • I can't think of anything other than some type of UTI...keep us updated.

  • I got that call. I got an Rx for Amoxicillin to treat a urinary tract infection.  I didn't know I had one, lol.
  • you could have had bacteria in your urine. sorry if TMI, but i did. i had an infection and had absolutely no symptoms. OB prescribed an antibiotic and that was that. i got one with DD too...same thing happened. your body does crazy things when you're pg!

  • most likely a UTI, there is no way to dx a sinus infection via urine or blood
  • thank you guys so much- that is helpful to know. one last follow up question: what antibiotics did they put you on? my doctor put me on amoxycillan for my sinuses. is that the same thing they use on a UTI?
  • My dr always puts me on macrobid, but that's the only thing that will work for me.

  • I got a call and it was a UTI.  I actually ended up needing IV antibiotics because it was a weird, hard to treat type of bacteria.

Just call in the morning and ask what it's for.

  • UTI usually.  Ihad one at my 1st apt and usually have one off and on the whole time.
  • It could also be for Strep-B...which is just a bacteria in your urine. It's pretty common and harmless to you, but can cause problems with a newborn which is why they screen for it and treat it w/anti-biotics.

I had it in mine...and took the anti-biotics for a week. No biggie.Smile
