Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Well I have good PT news and bad PT news...

She said Jack is making good progress (rolling around, almost sitting up by himself, putting a tiny bit more weight on his feet etc.)  She isn't convinced we should go the Orthopedic route yet (I have no idea what that even means, but it sounds scary...).  So we are trying these little brace wrap things that doesn't let him bend his knees.  With those we can work on getting him to bear weight without falling down into a sitting position.  It will also help us get him to strengthen his butt muscles.   She is giving us till March (his 1st birthday) to get us to crawling, standing, sitting up on his own, and possibly cruising before we "seek out other options"  While all this makes me terrified and scary, I hope it can be a light at the end of the tunnel.

  • Well I think Jack can definitely do that!  Mady has gone from just rolling around and kinda getting up on all fours two weeks ago to now crawling, sitting up on her own, and just yesterday she pulled herself up!  When does he start the brace?

Today but only a couple times a day.

  • He can do it! You have 2 months yet. Anything can happen. :) Good luck to you!

Kenna also sees a physical therapist to help make sure shes on track with those things. She seems alright so far.  She may be behind with her vision problems but to me she seems fine. I'm not therapist though. :)

  • Do you mind if I ask the backstory on this??

  • Well I hope this helps him.  Don't freak out until the dr gives you a reason to freak out, know what I mean?  He's perfect as he is :)

Sure!  Jack was breech throughout my pregnancy where he was sitting down in my pelvis and his feet were up by his head.  This along with his deep hatred for tummy time caused his tendons around the tops of his thighs and wraps around his buttocks to be extremely tight.  Because of all that he is pretty delayed in his gross motor skills.  i.e. he didn't roll till he was around 8 months and would spend a considerable amount of time on his tummy until this past month.  I knew something was wrong around 4 months when he wouldn't put weight on his legs and finally I was persistent with my gut feelings at our 6 month appointment.  My pedi gave us 1 month to see if he'd roll or bear weight, and of course, he didn't so she referred us to the local Childrens Hospital for PT. Smile
