3rd Trimester

Cramps

Im a first time mom and I dont want to overreact but I have been having cramps all day long on and off. Almost like Im going to start my period. I think they could be contractions of some sort but the pain is only in my pelvic area, not in my tummy. Very low down pain. I have no other symptoms along with it. Baby has been super active all day today!!!!

I want to know if any ladies have had these type of cramps and what did you do about it? My doctor is out for the week and I could call the nurse. I have an appt on monday first thing in the morning...so im trying hard to just think it could be body preparing itself and waiting it out...any info on your experiences with this would be a great big help. TIA!

Re: Cramps

  • Lay down, drink water, and see if you can time them.  If you have more than 4 in the next hour Id give a call in to the nurse, just to see.

  • i think period like cramps are normal as long as they are not paired with any spotting or bleeding.  i've been having them the last few days also.  i had an appt. on monday so i mentioned it to the doc and she said it's normal and most likely due to increased movement and activity from the holidays.  they've not been as constant or intense since things have slowed down the last couple days.
  • definitely time them. I had that for two 30 min rounds and had about 3-4 in the first round that were 5 mins apart and a min long which usually means see the DR or go to the hosp. Does you DR have a nurse practitioner at the office? Go into the office either way so they can check your cervix. Good luck! It happened to me too and everything was fine. I haven't had those cramps for at least 3 weeks now :)

This is always good advice. Also, if it turns out you can't time them, take some tylenol with your water. Cramping, unfortunately, is a regular player in the pregnancy symptom game.

  • Mr dr said that was normal, particularly on the left side. Not sure why. I think in the last month the baby grows a ton & maybe that causes the cramping.
