2nd Trimester

big ultrasound question...

we finally have ours scheduled! January 26th!! at my doctors office someone else does the ultrasound then we see the doctor, unfortunantly we have to see the doctor the next day rather than the same day. I'm assuming the ultrasound tech will tell us gender and we won't have to wait for our doctor..Is that the way most doctors are (having someone else do the big ultrasound?).

Also how long does it last?

Re: big ultrasound question...

  • Our appt is 1/2 an hour, then I go into the doc.  The tech should tell you the gender unless they cannot get a clear shot.  We also see an ultrasound tech as opposed to having a doc do the u/s.

  • At my doctor's office the ultrasound tech told us the gender.

  • My u/s lasted 30 minutes. The tech was able to let us know the gender.

  • With DD a tech did the ultrasound, and we pretty much got all the news from her (gender, if measurements looked good, etc.)  We didn't see our doctor for a week or two, actually.  As I recall it was about a half an hour.

  • Our tech told us the gender and talked generally about the measurements (I have a low placenta but she said the doctor will have to confirm). The appointment lasted 30 minutes and we won't talk to the doc until our next appointments (2 weeks after big u/s).
  • At my OB, you go to the hospital to have your u/s and a tech does it.  She told us the gender and then said the results would be reviewed by a radiologist and then fowarded to our dr.  I am sure your tech will tell you the gender.
  • We go to the hospital in town to get the U/S done.  The test lasted about an hour and the tech couldn't see the gender, but would have told us if she could.  We followed up with our Dr. the next week.

Same here - although my OB has an u/s machine in each exam room and does a quick u/s at each appointment. But you're sent to the hospital that you plan on delivering at for your "big" u/s.

Both the u/s tech and our OB know the gender - but they're not telling, we're team green!
