Just got back from taking DD to the pedi

And she doesn't have any medical causes for her waking.  She does have a bad bad rash but that wasn't the case when this started so we're feeling like it's not directly related.  I did get some good tips for dealing with it though (i.e. hose her down instead of wiping when she poops).

The doc told us not to pick her up when she wakes and that my usual plan of laying next to her is good.  I don't know how likely it is that we'll be able to avoid picking her up (or really if we even like the idea) but it will be a goal to keep her in bed.  The doc seemed to think it was more of a molars and moving combination than anything else.  She said that if we don't "cater" to her than she should adjust in a few days.  UGH.

I may get another bed (our queen air bed or we'll buy her a real mattress and I'll sleep on her air bed) and sleep in there with her to see if that helps.

The weird thing is that even being brought into our bed didn't seem to help last night.  BUT the doc did say that she could have been waking every time she peed (which was irritating the bad rash).  She said first thing will be to get rid of the rash and then figure the rest out.

So no real new answers, but hopefully things get better soon.  Kudos if you made it this far!

  • I'm wondering how much this might have to do with the big move and the holidays.  I know my kids have been "off" the last week or so and we didn't even have a big cross country move mixed in.

  • Good luck!  I hope you can get the rash cleared up - who knows - maybe that is contributing a bit?!

Yeah.  Basically the doc said that the rash and teething could have been causing her to wake more, while the new environment just made it worse.  She said that DD will just need time to adjust, which is true.  I just don't know how willing we are to lose so much sleep in the meantime when having her sleep in bed with us may help.  Then again, there really isn't room in our queen bed with my belly and I like the idea of camping out in her room better.  That way she still has mommy close but mommy gets her own space.
