maternity leggings.. how do you wear them?

Obviously, I understand the basic concept of 'insert legs into the long skinny bits and pull up over bump', but what do you wear them with? Skirts or dresses? long tops?

I found a great and comfy pair on sale today, but now that they're home with me, I have no idea what to do with them!

I'm fashion-challenged. Any tips or ideas much appreciated.

Re: maternity leggings.. how do you wear them?

  • I wear mine with a long tunic or this really great jersey knit dress I got from New York and Company.

ETA: The New York and Company dress in the one I'm wearing in my maternity pics in my siggy.

  • I wear my black ones with a cute dress DH got me from Old Navy: https://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=48687&vid=1&pid=737222&scid=737222002 because it is too short for my liking.
  • My concern wouldn't be what to wear with them but how to get them on. I have to get DH to tie my shoes. I don't know how I would be able to bend over and put one leg and then the other in a pair of leggings. Wear them how you would if you weren't pregnant, just make sure you cover up any dimples or or ridges, etc. Those aren't attractive on non-pregnant women!

  • Hmmmm....I'm confused. So, you're just having trouble getting them on? I can't help you there. I just put them on like pants.

Leggings are like tights, no? So you have to put them on a little differently than pants. Like, sit down, lean over, pull one leg up, and then pull the other up. The leaning over is difficult for me as it makes me short of breath. Not a really difficult thing to figure out, but then again, I was joking.

  • I'm kind of lazy, so I wear them with just about everything.

Thank goodness for low-rise leggings and low-rise black yoga pants, I would not know what to wear being pregnant without them. :)

  • I wear mine with tunics.  I also wear them with a few prepregnancy mini dresses that I can still fit into(and they fit more like tunics now).

Just make sure your shirt is long enough so that your butt is covered.

The cotton leggings I have are low rise and have quite a bit of give to them. They're the Gap Maternity leggings and are probably designed with a bit more ease. Maybe give those a try or have your hubby help you put them on. :-)

I would rather DH help me out of them, sigh.

  • I would wear them with a long top (tunic/sweater).  I think that would look really cute with a baby bump!  I've been trying to find some that fit me right, but so far, no luck.  The smallest size I found at Target were too big in the belly section.  Where did you get yours?

  • I wear mine with a long shirt.  But a skirt would look cute with them also.
  • I wear them with tunics and my Uggs (most favorite shoes right now). I normally wear them with ballet flats but the snow and freezing temps doesn't allow for that.
  • I wear mine almost daily with either a long shirt or a tunic type shirt, and flat boots which zip up.  It's my favorite most comfy outfit.
  • Long tops or sweaters or sweatshirts with Uggs.  Or with a dress or nicer long top with flats.  I live in leggings now.

  • Rocking mine right now with Uggs and a long sweater.  So comfy.

This. I also wear them with dresses (both maternity and pre-pregnancy) and either my flat Coach boots or some cowboy inspired boots or my Uggs.

Me too!  Uggs and flats and a longer shirt, but lately I don't even care if my shirt totally covers my butt.  I have 2 pair, one under belly from Gap that are tighter, so definitely a longer shirt, but then a Target over the belly pair that aren't skin tight, and I wear those with everything.  Who cares at this point!

  • Thanks, ladies! I got mine from target, but they were the Be brand (same as their belly band) and not the regular target kind. I also bought a size smaller than usual. They're so comfy, I can't wait to wear them.
