2nd Trimester

Wedding Dress & Preg

Hi ladies.....

FI and I moved our wedding date up to February for a small intimate wedding with our immediate family only since we are expecting LO in July!

I will be about 20 weeks along and was curious if this dress would work.  it is not maternity, but I figured if I bought it in a larger size and had it altered that it just might work.....

I am 14 weeks now and just started wearing a bella band if that helps at all and my normal size is an 8

any opinions???

Re: Wedding Dress & Preg

  • Thats a really pretty dress.  Have you gone to try it on?

I cannot speak from experience, but I would try it on and maybe bring a small cushion to mock a baby bump.

We all grow differently, at 20 weeks I was still able to hide my bump under sweaters and just 2 weeks later, I can no longer hide it.

    ETA: Congrats!!!!!

  • I think that's a perfect choice! It's gorgeous!! Remember that you'll be a bit more "chesty" than you're used to, so make sure the top fits how you want it.

Congratulations! Be sure to post pics for us!! Smile

  • I would buy an 8 or mayyyybe a 10. Looks pretty forgiving in the tummy area and sounds like you are staying pretty small. With the 1st pg many women dont pop til after 20 weeks.
  • I think it's perfect. I was only up about 4 lbs at 20 weeks and barely showing anyway. You should be fine.

  • its hard to say for sure but I was still wearing a lot of my same stuff at 20 weeks. I think you'll be fine ordering an 8.
  • It looks like it would be pretty forgiving but I would buy a size up just in case. that way you can have it tailored down to fit the week or so before the wedding. It's much easier to take in than let out, especially for an ever expanding belly.
  • I know your not lookin got a maternity wedding dress but back a few months ago when I was rush-planning for my own wedding (which is on hold now), I was loving this dress....  i just think its beautiful

  • It would have fit my belly at 20 weeks, but I don't think the top would have fit.  I was up about 3 inches around my boobs at 20 weeks, but can still wear my non-maternity clothes.
  • I think it will work, but I would order a size up from whatever you fit in now.  Since the dress is chiffon the middle part will not be stretchy at all along the waistline.  I am 17 weeks and all of my clothes still fit, but right where the waistline falls in that dress is right where I am experiencing some growth.  I think that the cut will hide/accomodate bump, I just worry about the tightness on that seam!

  • Hopefully your bump isn't really that big then, like others said.  It seems pretty forgiving, but if your bump is larger, it might shorten the dress in the front
  • I did order a size larger... so hopefully it will need some altering and will work.

Thanks for all your recommendations and comments! I really appreciate it

  • I am just over 20 weeks and still barely showing.  I have a small bump but it looks more like a little pudge.  How much larger did you buy?  I probably would have bought 2-3 sizes larger, to be safe.  A good semstress will be able to alter anything.  :)
  • It's gorgeous!  I love the look of it, especially how flowy it is.  I think if you get a a size bigger and get it altered it should work fine.  Best of luck with the wedding and your pregnancy!

  • I can't tell from the picture if its good. It's very small and blurry.

I'm getting married on January 9th and I"ll be 21 weeks 2 days

When I went to try on the dress my mom brought a bathtowel for me to put underneith the dress to make sure it would flow ok with a bump.

A dress with an empire waist is best so it flows out from just under the boobs, it leaves enough room for belly. Also if you get a bell skirt to fluff out the dress a bit make sure you get a tie one, not a zip up one. Tie it just above the belly and let it flow from there. It will help keep the dress from clinging to your belly.

At the store I tried on a 6 and would have to get it altered if I stayed my regular size. So I ordered an 8 thinking I would be ok. They are doing the final altering on it this week and they do have to let it out a bit. You might want to go 2 dress sizes up from what would have fit you pre preg.

Also find a seamstress who won't be bad at your for wanting to have it hemed the week before the wedding and what not.

Good luck and happy wedding! I'm sure you will look amazing!
