2nd Trimester

crib question

I'm online registering and I think I've found the crib I want, but the weight capacity is 50lbs... does this seem odd. it's a convertible crib so I'm wondering if this is the limit no matter which position it is in or just 50lb limit when it's assembled as a crib.. I'm confused. Plus the changing table I want that goes with it has a weight capacity of 200lbs. Any insight? (clearly this is my first time buying a crib LOL) TIA

Re: crib question

  • 50 pounds is a high weight limit.  By the time your child hits 50 pounds, they will be in a big bed (twin or full or something).

To give you some idea, my son is 27 months and is 31 lbs.  He will not gain anymore than a couple lbs or so before 3.

  • A 50 lb weight limit is plenty high enough.  My DD turns 3 next week, and she is around 35 lbs.  She is sleeping in a twin size bed now.  I wouldn't worry about the limit on the changing table either, unless you need to sit some adults on it for some reason.  Diaper, baby and the rest shouldn't top 200 lbs.

LOL I only mentioned the changing table limit b/c I thought it was strange that the limit on the crib was so much less. But thanks, I honestly have no idea how much children weigh on average at each age. I guess this crib is going to be the one. Thanks again ladies!

  • 50lbs seems right. I don't rememebr my sisters weighing 50lbs until they were in 1st or 2nd grade....DD is 2 1/2 and weighs about 26lbs and is the daybed stage of her convertible. Once the crib is converted to an actual BED however the weigh limit WILL go up because you'll then have it in a metal frame with support rails and an adult mattress.
  • DD stopped using her crib at 2 years, even as a toddler/day bed.  She's 5 now and just passed the 50lb mark.  It might not seem like a high number but it takes years before a baby is 50lbs, typically.
