Does it ever improve? For a few weeks there C was taking a 1 hour 15 min. nap every other day or so. Now she is back to 3 30 minte naps a day.
Will she ever start to stretch out her naps, or any tips to get her to sleep longer? She always wakes crying so I know she is still tired.
Re: Those who had/have cat nappers...
**sigh** I wish i could tell you it gets better. For us it has not.
But I am glad that DD is not the only cat napper out there.
DS took 3-4 cat naps at 6-months. I can't remember exactly when it improved, but I think it was around 7-months. He then took 2 1-1.5 hour naps and a third 30-45 minute nap. He dropped the third nap before 9-months.
ETA: Not sure if you do this, but we've learned not to go in at the first signs of waking/crying. Often if we give him 5 minutes he'll go back to sleep.
C did the EXACT same thing. A few weeks shy of the six-month mark, he started randomly having longer naps, but not consistently. Then six months hit (a huge developmental milestone marker for babies) and he regressed back to 40 minute naps for a few weeks. By the time he reached seven months, he was back to having one longer nap per day. He now usually has one 1.5 hour nap and one 40 minute nap, although sometimes he has a random two-hour nap here and there.
You can't teach her to take longer naps, but she will get there. It's just a matter of her learning to self-soothe when her first sleep cycle ends around the 30-40 minute mark.
