2nd Trimester

It's very hard to shop for maternity clothes....

...when you dont quite need them yet. Confused MIL gave me 3 really cute maternity sweaters and some jeans for Christmas, however, they were 1-2 sizes too large. Granted, I know the belly area would be too big, but it was a huge tent all over. Went to Target today to exchange them for a different size and my Target didnt have any of the styles, and they have by far the smallest maternity section (I was in and out within one large step). So, I tried to find a few other maternity things, but had no luck. I can still fit into my regular clothes just fine (with a BeBand) so it makes it hard to tell what size I need in maternity. Anyone else trying to stock up on maternity clothes but have no luck? Is it best to wait and shop for when I really need them?

  • If you go to Motherhood they have a belly that you wear when you try on the clothes. It really helps me determine what sizes I might need for later on.

  • I think its best to jst grab a couple things as you need them. If you can wear your reg clothes then do it!! Thats awesome!
  • I'm sorry.

Target vanity sizes their maternity clothes by one or two sizes.

    I'm normally a S or M, and at target I'm an XS.

I second this.  I didn't end up needing very much, personally, a lot of my regular clothes (particularly bulkier winter stuff) fit fine throughout.

  • I'm 25 weeks & still fit in regular clothes, although most are 1 size larger than pre-pregnancy & I have to make sure they're a little longer to cover the panel from my pants.  pp's suggestion to use the belly @ MM is a great idea for future, but you probably won't be needing maternity tops for awhile yet.

Good to know! MIL got me a L in all the shirts and I usually wear a M at Target. They had one cute XS sweater there that actually fit, but was just wierd on me. Target clothes tend to fit me oddly anyways.

  • I just stepped into the world of mat clothes.  I have 2 LOs coming my way, so I've popped a little earlier than most.  I found a good pair of work mat pants at Motherhood which has an adjustable waist band.  I just got so tired of wearing my BeBand over my unbuttoned pants and wanted just a pair of pants I could simply pull up and down.  I also got 2 shirts from Motherhood, which when I put them on there was no hiding my little bump :-)
  • Target is hit or miss with clothing.

I only have two items from there. Most are either fug or sewn wrong.

  • I don't need maternity clothes yet but I bought a few shirts, a pair of jeans, and two pairs of pants at Kohl's.  They were on sale, I had a 30% off coupon, and I wanted to buy a few things so when I "pop," I have some clothes I can wear.  I usually wear a medium and they fit me fine now (the pants were a tiny bit loose).  Maybe try Kohl's?
  • You are going to need maternity clothes any second now.  If you're 17 weeks and haven't totally popped yet, then just wait a few weeks and you will.  Then you'll start getting bigger and bigger before you know it.  I just went to Old Navy and got a BUNCH of cute stuff for cheap.  This is my second pregnancy and I "popped" a lot sooner than baby #1.  The first time around, I remember asking my best friend when I would start needing maternity clothes and she said SOON (this was right around 14 weeks) and she was right.  Before I knew it there was no denying I was pregnant.

  • Oh, one other thing, when shopping for maternity clothes chose the size you were before you got pregnant.  They are designed that way and are just bigger in the boobs & belly.
  • I'm having a very hard time with clothes every time people see me there like are you about 6 months. I just laugh to keep from crying cause i'm only 14 weeks just big. i"m going to a really nice thrift store so i don't have to pay a lot for clothes.
  • I've been in two Target's lately that had almost nothing in the maternity section.  All I want is some cami's to wear under sweaters and no luck.
