I have my big scan next Friday morning, at 18w4d to find gender, and take measurements. We want to know gender, so being able to see the parts would be excellent, and the place I am going is a 2 hour drive away!
I keep hearing women who eat sugar cookies and coke to make sure baby is lively...
However, I have cut ALL caffeine from my diet, and haven't had a coke since before I got my BFP. So, I am wondering, would coke be TOO MUCH?
I'm sort of thinking I may get a nice yummy breakfast burrito, and some orange juice. I'm worried about making baby a total spazz (and making it hard to get gender and measurements), since neither of us partake in any caffeine really!
Thoughts?
Re: Should I drink OJ or Coke?
I also cut all caffeine when I'm pregnant. With DD I drank a soda & she didn't move much (but enough to find out the sex). This one, I drank a soda, and he didn't move much, we had to go back another day, I drank OJ in the morning & Mt Dew right before I got there, and it was perfect.
I thought maybe a caffeinated soda would be too much, but it wasn't, for either of my kids, and that was the only time I ever had caffeine (other than what's in chocolate

Right... And I can always pop a can of coke if baby is not wiggling *enough*... I just can picture getting a caffeine overload, being hyper all day, and baby not cooperating...LOL
This
I usually take a glass of milk or a bottle water and drink that before my appointments. That way it serves two purposes 1) I have enough liquid to do those lovely urine tests and 2) the baby is a little active so that they can do what they need to do.
Good luck!
OJ did the trick for me yesterday. I had half a mug before I got there and drank a little more during the u/s to get our baby girl to really move. GL!
I'm just going to share what I did b/c I had 2 different experiences. For both I ate and drank what I normally do at the same times I normally eat. The 1st u/s (8w5d) was at 4pm, around 3pm I ate cut up carrots w/a little dressing and my own trail mix (Fiber 1, raisins, and raw almonds) and drank water all day. He moved around like crazy, but we were able to see his goods. But he wouldn't get in a good position for her to see his heart chambers properly, so we had to do another u/s 3 weeks later. That 2nd u/s was at 8:30am, I did my normal workout at 5am and ate my breakfast of oatmeal (steel cut oats w/cinnamon, protein powder, and a little splenda) topped w/berries around 6:45am and drank my normal amount of water. This time he was laying there completely calm the whole time and she again confirmed his sex. So my point in all this is that I just did what I normally would do and everything worked out both times, no need to eat extra sugar, have any oj, nothing special. GL!!!
I suggest taking some OJ with you instead of drinking it before.
The main goal of this U/S is for the tech to get all necessary measurements. Finding out the gender is just a bonus.
