2nd Trimester

f/u to Choroid Plexus Cyst

I posted back at the beginning of December that we found out LO had a choroid plexus cyst at the big ultrasound. Unfortunately, the ultrasound tech scared the crap out of DH and I. The high risk doctor made us feel a little better, but not great.

We went on Monday for our f/u Level II ultrasound. We had a different tech this time. She was much nicer. However, she wasn't allowed to tell us what she was seeing. So we had to wait 1 1/2 hours after the U/S to see the high risk doctor.

Luckily the CPC had gone away. The doctor said he assessed our risk of having a baby with Trisomy 18 at 1 in 10,000. (based on the blood work and the fact that the CPC went away). Phew, what a relief. I almost started crying in his office.

I have seen a few posts on here recently about CPCs. My best advice is try not to worry too much between when you find out and your follow up ultrasound. (I know, easier said than done).

Thanks for all your T & P.

  • Yay for the great news!!! I hope that we have the same to share about our LO when we go back in a month or so...
  • I'm so glad I opened this post. We found out that our DD also has a CPC about 6 mm. Our tech/doc was awesome in that she didn't scare us and said that they now consider them relatively normal, but that they do like to see them go away. But of course, what do we do as moms...we worry.

They will schedule us for a follow up u/s in the third tri and I hope I get the good news you did also.

Our NT scan was perfect, so I am very hopeful.

Thanks for sharing your experience, it makes me feel better about it.

  • Thats great! They found one on my DS 2 weeks ago and I have been going crazy worrying about it even though they told me not to. He said 99% of the time they just go away. I hope we are all in that 99%!
  • I'm so happy for you guys! We had our own little scare at our big u/s as well, and our ultrasound tech was AWFUL, she was part of the reason we were so upset. The doctors were all much better.Part of me would like to write a letter to the ultrasound place letting them know that she made the entire thing way worse. But that's probably not the best idea. It just bugs me because I've heard a few people say that recently, and it's really sad.

    Still- glad everything is ok!

  • I really wish that I would have taken the doctor's advice and not worried as much. He said that because there were no other indications of problems (heart or hands) that most likely the issue would resolve itself. He even said that if the cyst didn't go away that it wasn't going to be a problem.

I didn't really listen and spent weeks worrying. But now I am so happy and feel like I can really start to enjoy this pregnancy.

I hope that everyone here gets the same happy results when you go for your follow up ultrasound.

  • Such good news!  They found them on our little girl, too, at our u/s on Monday.  We go in to see the perinatologist on Tuesday, so I'm hoping we can get more answers.  I hope we get the same good news you got!  We're praying non-stop.  I know they call it a "normal variant" or whatever, but it still scares the crap out of you, even though the doctor told us not to worry, and that he wasn't worried.
