100% effaced but only 1cm dilated?

I just had my OB appt and I'm 100% effaced but only 1cm dilated. Does that seem weird? I guess it seems weird to me to be that effaced but barely dilated. Anyone have any similar expereinces? How soon did you go into labor with similar exam results?

No, to me they are kinda separate things. I was 100% effaced for awhile or 90% but only 2cm, labor started at 3cm or 3.5 cm for me...

It can start anytime.The way my dr told me was that effacement made labor easier, so you might not be pushing for long as you have no cervix left.

Me! I know this probably isn't what you want to hear but I was 100% effaced and only a fingertip dilated for two weeks until my water broke at 39w4d. However... my OB said that effacement was way more important than dilation (although he may have just been blowing smoke!) because it meant that your cervix was ready

Oh, when I did go into labor - I was 100% effaced and I only pushed for 30 minutes. But my water didn't break on its own...

My water broke and I had regular contrax for 11 hours after until I was finally checked by midwife. At that point I was only 1.5 cm dilated and 90% effaced. She made it very clear that effacement was more significant than dilation at that point, and I was making great progress. Within 3 hours after that I was 4cm and 5 hours after THAT I was pushing. But it's different for everyone.

Well your responses actually make me feel better.

I can hold out a while longer with the hope that the pushing part will be easier for me! (at least I'll hang on to that one). My OB doesn't always explain things, so I'm so thankful for you ladies!
