White or dark furntiure for a girl?

I was wondering what everyone thought about White or dark furntiure for a girl? I love the white but my DH is set on the dark.

So, Team Pink which are you choosing?

Re: White or dark furntiure for a girl?

  • We did white with DD and LOVE it. We're doing espresso with this baby, and it didn't matter the sex, but that was b/c I didn't want to do white again, and I don't like any of the other colors.

  • We're having a boy but we planned on going dark if it was a girl. I just like it better.

  • I'd do whatever you both think looks best with the room colors/decor...good luck!
  • We are on team green, but going with the dark cherry. We just like the look of darker wood than a white.

  • We're still torn right now.  I think we'll see which bedding we like and decide based on that.  However we have an old dresser that will be in the baby's room for storage/change table so we may go with a white crib to match that.

Whatever we pick will be used for the next baby too so this decision is going to be a tough one.

  • with DD#1 We have natural/honey colored furniture. With this baby we're doing espresso. DH hates white.
  • I would go with dark since white will get dirty once they hit the toddler years. We made the mistake of buying white for DD, and now it has stains everywhere.

  • I personally love dark wood for both boys and girls.   I love the look of pink and dark brown.

  • White is very pretty but I've always loved espresso wood and that's what we'll be getting either way.
  • We went with white for our little girl..I just like the white better for a girl...softer
  • I wanted dark, but once I started figuring out the look I wanted for my nursery, I realized that white would look better. I'm doing lots of blue in the nursery, so the dark furniture would just make it look too boyish.
  • We picked out a dark wood crib but haven't ordered it yet.  I'm still getting used to the idea that I'm having a girl (really convinced myself I was having a boy) but I like the look of dark wood and lighter colors, like pink.  Plus the rest of our furniture in our house is darker.

This! I would also get what matches your bedding. We are doing mostly pink and brown(expresso) colored stuff.

  • I love white furniture for a girl.  The only thing though is that I always view white furniture as girly.  So if you have more children and have a boy, then you may not be able to use.  Unless of course you like white furniture for boys.

I have dark furniture for my son so that's what this next baby is getting.

  • I think it's a personal taste...I like chocolate brown coloured funniture, regardless of the sex.

DH's grandma passed down an armoire to him when he was a baby and he wants to pass it down to our baby, unfortunately it is light coloured wood, so now I have a choice of getting light coloured wood to match the armoire, or just get a crib and dresser in chocolate brown and not have a match three peice set.

  • I hate white, no matter the gender we were looking at dark wood finishes.

I'm nto a pink girly girl fan and I'm also not into themes.  This room is PERFECT.=)

  • We chose cherry wood.

  • We did white with DD and this one will be white also.
  • I have the same problem...i love the white but DH likes dark brown....i think with the bedding we might do the white looks better tho so I think ill get my way Wink
  • We're doing dark partially because I like seeing the actual wood (instead of it being painted0 and because we prefer darker furniture better. I also think this will be nicer as she gets older and more versatile if we have more kids who may not be girls :)
  • We got a honey colored furniture. Looks beautiful with our Dr. Seuss decor.

  • Personally, I don't care for white furniture.  We are getting cherry.  It looks classic, so we can use it for the next one regardless of sex.

  • We are doing white regardless of gender.  Most of the furniture in our house is dark, so I like that look.  The nursery is pretty small though & I feel like dark will make that room look smaller.  White just seems fresh & nice for babies.

  • i think it depends on the colors of the room and bedding set that you choose.  dh and i had fallen in love with an espresso crib, but it doesnt look right with the bedding i chose.  so, it looks like we're going with the white furniture.

  • We went with the dark cherry - I preferred that to white.

  • While I love how white looks, I think it gets dirty easily.  We are going with a medium/dark wood for the crib.  We don't want it to be too girly, b/c we hope to use the same crib for another baby.  I don't think the color of the wood is what makes it gender specific, though.  It really depends on the styling.

This is the 3 in 1 crib that I currently like:

  • Personally, I'm not a fan of white furniture.  We're going with an oak crib and a yellow dresser no matter the sex.
