Graco SnugRide vs SnugRide 32

Any thought ladies? I am thinking the smaller one. Am I really going to want to carry around a 32 pound baby plus a 10 lb carrier?

Any advice from first time and existing moms? Thanks!

My Grandpa is cute and wants to buy our car seat - this week! We have to make a quick decision:)

Re: Graco SnugRide vs SnugRide 32

  • Not a mommy yet, but I chose the 32. Not because I think I'll be carrying it around but because they are supposed to be rear-face as long as possible.

    GL - it's a tough decision!

  • I only used the SungRide, which I LOVE. I've heard lots of negative things about the 32, mainly just b/c it's a lot heavier, just by itself.

Honestly, I highly doubt you will still have your 32lber in an infant seat. My 2 year old is only 27 lbs. We switched her to a convertible seat at 6 months and 17 lbs, she was already getting too heavy to carry around in an infant seat.

you can rear-face the convertible seat once you make the switch. Honestly even 22 lbs in one of those things is HEAVY. really heavy.

It may be a good option if you think you will have a long/tall baby though. Sometimes I think the babys grow out of the height limit ... ? Although maybe that?completely?wrong :-/

Are you talking about the child being rear facing as long as possible? Because convertible seats do that as well. We changed DD at 6 months & did extended rear facing (past 1 year). Most convertible seats go rear facing to at least 40 lbs, some up to 60 I believe.

  • We're getting the 32, but I would be fine with the regular snugride too.  I don't think you will be carrying your baby around in a carrier when he/she ways 32 pounds so you won't have to worry about that.  The snugride 32 is made so your baby can ride in it in the car longer.
  • Ooh, thanks! I am leaning towards the smaller one and i really think it will be fine! I hope so. It will be fun to see what others have to say too.
  • Oh, one more thing, the infant seat is a pain compared to a convertible seat. It's much easier to get them in and out of a convertible, plus they sit up more, which at a certain age, they will want to do!
  • My husband and I are not small people, I 'm 5'9" and he is 6'5" we went with the Snugride because when we had DS it was that or the safeseat (which is now the 32)  and the snugride got better reviews.  You definately do not need to worry about your child growing out of the snugride before you would switch LO to a converatble anyway. My DS is 2 1/2 and is tall but only weighs 28 pounds.  We switched him to a rear facing convertable at 10 months.  You would never want to continue carrying around a child in their carrier after like 6 months!!

So I would definately go with the snugride because it is lighter and babies AND all their stuff is heavy enough!!

  • When we were talking to the person who worked at BRU, she said that a lot of babies out grow the 32 before they even hit the weight limit because of their height.  This is our first so I'm just going by what she said but she did have a 7 month old!  HTH!

  • I have the snugride and I would hate lugging around anything bigger than that.  You will most likely be purchasing a convertible car seat once baby is around 6 months old, and I don't think getting a couple more months out of an infant carrier is useful enough to carry around the additional weight.

  • I've been debating this myself and I'm starting to think I'll just go with the regular so I don't have to mess around with the extra weight (we're using a snap and go stroller frame too but that might still be a pain getting it all in and out with the extra weight).  I think the previous poster is probably right that we won't want to carry around the baby in that car seat after he reaches 22 pounds anyway!   I'd probably rather have my baby in the Britax sooner rather than keeping him in the Graco anyways.

However, if you really want to proscrastinate buying the convertible car seat, I guess I'd go with the 32.  I think I'll just put a Britax on my registry and hope I get that too.

  • We are going with the Snugride.  Unless you expect a tall or heavy baby, it should get you through the first 9-12 mo.

My girlfriend's 3rd baby is really big and he would have been out of the regular snugride by 6months, she has the snugride 32 and it is working great.  I don't think she carries him around in it though.

    this.

i debated not doing an infant seat at all, since i don't plan to carry the baby around in it much (i think i'll prefer to bw).  however, DH will watch LO a lot when i return to work, and he wanted it.

  • we just got the snugride 32 last night for the following reasons:

-My sister had the snug ride 32 and said that we could use her 2 bases for our cars since my nephew has a new car seat now.

-I like the idea of at least being able to use the car seat for a little while longer, rather than have a baby thats right on the border of the weight limit for the smaller snugride

-our system was on clearance @ bru. So we got 30% off the clearance price, and b/c we were buying a lot and the sales lady was really nice she let us use one of the 20% off coupons in addition to the 30% off. So we got our carseat/stroller combo for $150, instead of the regular price ($270)

  • I wouldn't spend the extra money on the SnugRide 32.  Once DD was crawling and mobile, she wanted to sit up in her carseat.  We switched her to the convertable seat at 7 monhts.  She was only 17lbs at that point so it's still well within the SnugRide capacity.

At 2 years DD still isn't 32lbs and there is NO way she'd sit still in an infant seat.

  • I don't know anyone who carried their babies around in the carrier after the first couple months.  I would make the decision based on safety and what you'll get the most use out of.

  • I was going to get the 32 on Sunday but after trying it out at BBB, we decided to get the regular Snugride.

There were serious probs getting it to click into snap-n-go, the graco one even. ?We are also getting the Bugaboo chameleon, it had the same problem getting it to click in.

?As soon as we tried the regular Snugride, it was so simple to get it to snap in.

I got home and checked the book "What to Expect the First Year" - the growth charts, and realized that the regular one should be good for at least 18 mos. under most circumstances so that settled it. ?I don't really see the point of the Snugride 32. ?They were discontinuing all the ones we saw too, so I am not sure if it was just the style or the carseat in general.?

  • I don't really see the point of the 32 either. Everyone I know or heard who has one says their LO outgrew the height way before the weight, and their baby didn't want to be laying in an infant seat passed 10 months or so anyway. Given that the 32 is more expensive (if they were the same price, then well maybe), I don't see the point. I'd rather spend the money we're saving on the convertible seat, which is more expensive anyway.

Yup. You're right that a convertible does that but the "big kid" carseat we're getting is not convertible which is what made us pick the 32.
