My best friend and I got pregnant around the same time. My due date is Feb 1st hers Feb 15th. I got a call this morning from her husband saying they had a baby this morning!!
She was at work yesterday morning and started to not feel so well. She never experienced contractions with her first because of a planned c-section so she had no clue what was going on with her. She called her Dr complaining of cramping, nausea, dizziness and a headache. They told her to go home and rest for an hour, thinking she was over doing it at work. She went home, took an hour nap and when she woke up she felt something wet...she reached down and saw that it was blood. She called her husband to come home ASAP and take her to the ER. As she hung up the phone her water broke and gushed all over her bed. She called 911. The paramedics and fire department got to her house and was putting her in the back of the ambulance right as her husband pulled up to the house. They took her to the hospital and found that she was only at a 1. They gave her antibiotics and steriods hoping they could keep her baby in for a little bit longer. By 2 this morning her contractions had not eased up and were now 2 minutes apart. Still at a 1 (and because this hospital refuses all VBACs) they took her to the OR and delivered her son. Born at 33 weeks, shreiking like a banshee, little Zachary Charles was born weighing 5.5 lbs!! He's breathing well on his own and regulating his body temperature on his own, but they are keeping him in the NICU for 2 weeks just to be on the safe side. My friend is doing well, not coping well with the fact that she cannot hold her precious baby boy yet or breastfeed. She'll be in the hospital for a few days to be monitored as well.
Thoughts and prayers for her and family would be appreciated. They were supposed to move tomorrow out of her Mom's house...her Dad and step Mom are taking care of that for them now though. I am in complete amazement that her baby is doing as well as she says he is...what a miracle!

Oh, Natalie, how scary for your friend. Thankfully little Zachary is ok. I will keep them in my thoughts that he gets stronger and stronger and your friend recovers quickly.

Thoughts & prayers to your friend. Tell her to pump like crazy to get her milk to come in. The NICU should let her hold her baby soon and should encourage her to breastfeed. My DD was in the NICU for almost 4 weeks and she only had formula the first couple of days while I was getting the hang of pumping. Once my milk came in, I pumped and took the milk to the NICU and they gave her that. They also encouraged me to breastfeed her when I was there so she would get used to the breast. Once she came home, she had no trouble transitioning fully to the breast and had no more bottles.
Good luck to your friend!
Thanks for the tip! I'll pass this on to her next time I chat with her. Unfortunately I cannot go and see her...I myself am on modified bed rest!! I'm looking to send her some flowers though...it's the best I can do at the moment.
