Nurseries and Baby Gear

New parents here. What's in a well stocked diaper bag?

I got my hubby the diaper bag he picked out, and I'd like to fill it with all of the necessities, and present it to him at the end of my shower.

I also need to know for my bag.

LoL... I want to be ready.

Thanx

Re: New parents here. What's in a well stocked diaper bag?

  • All the obvious things like: diapers, wipes, powder (if you use it), bottles w/formula or bm, burp cloth, nuk or 2, an extra receiving blanket (can be doubled as a changing pad), and a lovey...

2 onesies and an extra sleeper (easier to keep track of than a 3 or 4-piece outfit floating around in the bag)

trial sizes of lotion & sunscreen, kleenex & hand sanitizer

a baby first aid kit with: thermometer, baby tylenol, bandaids, wet wipes and other things such as oragel as they become necessary

    And some SNACKS! :)

  • I think it depends on the age of your baby and your style. Thus far here's what's been in my bag:

    - 3 diapers

    - travel pack of wipes

    - wet bag (in case there is a mess I have somewhere to put it)

    - extra long sleeve onesie (although it has thus far not been used)

    - extra receiving blanket in neutral color (doubles as a burp rag)

    - 1 pacifier in a holder

    - 1 premixed formula bottle and a ring/nipple (this is for when DH has LO as a backup)

    - small bag of neccessaties for me (hand santizer, lip balm, advil, hand lotion, etc)

  • Someone just suggested this on a post yesterday:

Maybe it's a little early to be thinking of this, but you might want to file this away for later. When you pack your diaper bag, include a fresh shirt for yourself. Little babies emit lots of fluids, and they often end up all over the person who is holding them! Trust me, you don't want to be stuck in a restaurant with a poopy shirt on.

Ummm, a nuk is a pacifier, right?

    And, what is a lovey?

  • DS is almost 6 mos and I wouldn't be caught dead away from the house w/out a paci or two, diapers/wipes/changing pad or blanket, & bottles/formula. If I remember I like to take a bib/burp cloth, change of clothes, and a toy or two. I was carrying around the little first aid kit but found I never used it. Maybe when DS becomes mobile I'll start carrying it again. I used to carry a ton of junk w/ me in the beginning and found it just weighted me down.
