Are your parents...

take a grandparents class?  This is the description from our hospital...

 

$30/person, $40/couple; During this program, grandparents have the opportunity to meet with a prenatal educator and discuss current trends in childbirth and infant care so that they can help support their own children as they become parents. A tour of The Eisenberg Family Center is included; At Monmouth Medical Center; Registration 732-923-6990

    huh that's an interesting concept! But I doubt my parents would be interested, my mom thinks she knows everything already. :-P

    I wish. I can't even get my mom to stop smoking around me. She says she did it when she was prego with me and I turned out fine! That is awesome for new grandparents who are willing.

    Neither of my sets of parents took a class. Im not even sure that our hospital offers anything like that. I think it's a good idea, especially since some moms think the only way to do things is the way they did it umpteen years ago. lol

    No - my parents will be living overseas and visiting every few months. My inlaws are already grandparents for a nephew so they've already gotten their feet wet dealing with babies and kids.

    This made me LOL, only when I think about my mom. Our hospital doesn't offer anything like this, but my mom would laugh in my face if I even suggested it. Like a pp said, my mom already thinks she knows everything (and oh.my.gosh. please don't tell her I said this, but I'm not so sure she doesn't). My niece is 5 and my nephew is 2 and my mom has them constantly. Babies have always been a part of my family life. I have a lot of cousins that are quite a bit younger than I am. Even if she had a chance to learn "new techniques," I think my mom would say that sometimes the old-fashioned ways have their merrits.

    I think it is a great idea if you parents are close by and willing since things have changed so much since they had kids.  Our parents are 1100 miles away and my IL would refuse anyway.

    I think our parents would just laugh and roll their eyes at us.  I agree that a lot of things have changed since we were children, but IMO I think it would be kind of insulting to ask our parents to attend parenting classes since they did, after all, raise us.  Although, I also think that DH and I are blessed with very attentive and wonderful parents, so it may just be a matter of perspective.

    what will they come up with next? I think it sounds kinda..useless. They're grandparents why would they care about that stuff? Well, some might but I know mine don't! LOL...

    It sounds like a ridiculous waste of time and money to me.  My parents had my brother and I, and we're still here and doing fine.  I don't really think either of them would care at all about modern birthing trends, and I don't blame them.  i don't really care either.
