TTC After a Loss

So I do have some good news despite the rough holidays (adoption process mentioned)

We are now almost finished filling out the paperwork for our local adoption agency and tomorrow at 11 am we have our fingerprinting and next Wednesday we have our adoption physicals so we are moving forward!  Hopefully we will be scheduling our home study soon. Just so much going on with all of this, I just really need to focus on this.

Our next step will be to submit the paperwork to the local agency and between all of the things listed above we will be starting the paperwork for the Native-American adoption agency.  It's very surreal.

  • Wow, how exciting for you!  I hope that everything goes smoothly for you!  I may have missed this but what age are you looking to adopt or doesn't it matter?  Good luck to you through the process - I hope it's a short one!!!

    Thanks!

Because we are going through a NA agency where the children may be removed from the home permanently we have decided we are willing to go up to 12 months unless it's a sibling situation where it may be something like the older child is 18 months and the youngest child is 6 months.  We're not sure how if we would ever go over 24 months, those are things we are discussing and filling out in the paperwork.

  • That is awesome!

    Oh wow!

I'm sorry, i dont know your situation, are you TTC and adopt as well? I am adpoted!

We are going both routes.  I'm extremely high-risk and have had 5 losses in 3 years with one lost at 17 weeks...and I turned 35 a month ago.  We are seeing a specialist re: my only fallopian tube (lost one from ectopic) to make sure that there is no damage or problems with it, plus we are going the adoption route.  Even with my last pregnancy in November we have already started the adoption process and before we knew I was m/c-ing we were still moving forward with the paperwork.  We know we want a big family and even if I have a successful pregnancy it doesn't mean I'll have another successful one.  Our thought process is what's the worst that can happen, we can have 2 children to love that are around the same age, I'm totally ok with that :)

  • That's awesome!  Congrats!

DH and I know that adoption is in our family-building plans, whether we have a bio baby or not...

I hope this isn't a weird question - may I ask what the process is for adopting a Native-American child where you are?  My family is Senaca on one side and I know that, on the res, there are specific rules/laws for a whole host of things.  It's something I hadn't actually thought about but am thinking I should!

     Thanks!

We're not elligible through h's tribe because we don't live in the 7 specific counties to qualify (we're 5 hours away).  After doing some research we found another tribe we do qualify with.  A couple of the requirements are that only one of us are members of a nationally recognized tribe and have the tribal card to prove it (which they will verify through the tribe).  With this specific tribe the percentage did not matter.  Now because we don't live in the state of this NA agency we are responsible for working with an agency to complete our home study and classes at our own expense.  If we lived there then they would complete the home study and we would take their courses with us not having to pay.
