Wool yarn question (yup, knitting related)

I've been checking patterns for soakers in Ravelry, and I've seen some use 100% Merino wool, but others advice against it.

Your thoughts/experience?

TIA!

  • Love Merino wool for soakers.  Very soft.

Hmmm...really, I can write in complete sentences.  Really, I can.

  • I think that the yarns known for more drape and less stretch are not highly recommended.  Merino falls into that category.  Alpaca is even worse, though.

I'd save your lovely merino for a stuffed animal or soft sweater if you wanted to use it for a LO project.

  • See, I like Merino because it's so soft.  I'm sorta' a sucker like that.

    LOL. I believe it!

I have merino and fishermen's wool. I guess I'm just greedy and want to make as many soakers as I can with those!

  • Could you knit them double-stranded?  The fisherman's wool would be good for holding shape, I'd imagine.  Right?

Confused  No idea. This will be my first time with wool Big Smile

  • It's worth a shot.  If you decide to knit it double stranded, just up your needle size and adjust your gauge accordingly, if the pattern allows.

    I *think* this will work?
