So, I had a mysterious $20 bank charge for Parenting Magazine which I never ordered. So I call the number on the charge which goes to Parenting. They were very nice and refunded the money right away. I ask why I was charged and they said when you sign up for mailings with Motherhood Maternity the store automatically subscribes you to the magazine using your credit card. But they've had problems with associates not mentioning this to the customers. That's so messed up! The lady apologized, but it's not like it was even her fault. Anyway, so keep an eye on your bank accounts.

In defense of the MM near me (not that anyone needs to be defended or wants MM to be defended) but our saleslady was VERY upfront with us on this, highlighting the phone number to cancel and rules on everything she handed us.
I cancelled before the trial ended with no problem. I guess it depends on the store or salespeople and I've heard the same story you experienced from a few people. Too bad they can't just be up front--it's still a good deal to be able to test it out, just let people KNOW they need to cancel. I don't get it.
I started gettting the magazine as well, and didn't know about the charge. I noticed the charge as well and called about it.
But, I like the magazine, so I decided to just keep it and not worry about it.

The Motherhood store here just asks if you want 2 free copies. They never say anything about signing you up, but I knew that's what they did. I have fallen for this trick in the past and now when anyone offers me something free like that, I just turn it down.
Sneaky, sneaky!
