IVF ladies - a question

Since we did IVF, we should know exactly what "age" the baby is measuring on the ultrasound.  Did anyone's measurements change from u/s to u/s?

My doctor was concerned because I should have been 7 weeks, 4 days and the baby was measuring 6 weeks, 6 days but the u/s tech told me it was no big deal and it happens all the time from u/s to u/s.  So I'm confused and doing my own unscientific poll.

Thanks for your input.

3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again

Re: IVF ladies - a question

  • I had a similar experience with my first pregnancy that wasnt IVF.  The first u/s I was measuring 6w3d and a week later I was measuring over 8 weeks!!! I think it is just variations in growth rates that can be really normal. BTW, they changed my due date 3 times because of the u/s measurements so I dont put too much stock in those dates as hard and fast. It is a machine making a guess by mapping coordinates. LOTS of room for error.

     God luck!

  • My best friend did IVF and her baby always measured a little ahead on all her u/s. My doctor says that as long as baby measures with in +/- 5 days of the orginal due date he won't change anything. Also the way the baby is laying and the angle they get during u/s can affect how it's measured, when I went in for my first u/s they measured it one way and then found a better angle and measured again and the dates changed by 3 days.
  • with my first (via IVF) the due date changed a few times - certainly from what my RE said to what my OB said.  Haven't had my u/s yet with this pregnancy (since we just got the BFP) so I can't say, but this one is an IVF baby too so we'll see!!  Don't stress it.
  • Sure did! We were measuring a week behind...then started catching up and I just had my 12 week u/s yesterday and all caught up.  Dr even had us devestated that it wasnt a viable pg because it was as advanced as it "should" be. Then when we saw hb and growth catching up....his response was Im surprised. So pls dont stress...Drs only know so much...have faith!

I can't tell you how much better I feel - especially from this response- but from all of you.  Thanks.  I know techs can measure differently and they sometimes have growth spurts so I've tried to stay calm.  But you know...those horrible throughts creep up every now and then.  So I'm going to blow off my Dr's comments and just wait until my OB ultrasound next week and she how the bean is doing.  Thanks!
