DD tried to grab my potato chip yesterday. And she's not sleeping. I'd like to read some research or good suggestions on when to start solids. I've heard that starting solids might help her sleep longer, and I've also heard that that's an OWT. Either way, if it's safe, I'm thinking about starting her sooner rather than later, but if there's good reason not to start yet, I'll wait. She'll be 5 months on 1/1, by the way.
ETA: I'm also intrigued by baby-led weaning and would love some resources for that as well. Thanks!
Re: Any good sites re: when to start solids?
Most places say to not start until 6 months. The baby's digestive system isn't developed enough. All the yadda about cereal early was back when babies didn't breast feed often and most lived off formula.

We do baby-led weaning. I have my experiences in my blog (there is a link for BLW posts in the sidebar). We tried purees for maybe a week and then went to BLW. BTW we discuss BLW a lot on the AP board.
You will find different opinions everywhere, but I think that it's a load of crap that solids might help your baby sleep longer. J went through a difficult period of sleep from 4 to 6 months, as many babies do, so hang in there.
I would agree to use kellymom or wholesomebabyfood.com, but you will definitely read there that you should wait until 6 months. J was sooo interested in food at 4 months but we held out until 6 months because we knew it was better for him in the long run. Plus, honestly, solids are a PITA. I make it all myself, but that's not even the PITA-- it's the change in poop, and the additional thing to fit into the schedule.
GL with whatever you choose to do.
