I had an ultrasound today, and heard for the first time that my uterus is tilted, but was told "that's normal for some people." The sonographer was having a hard time getting a good look at the baby, but its heart was beating very strong, it was measuring correctly, and it all looked healthy (she had me leave and drink a ton of water, which helped quite a bit with the visuals).
I just did a little research and it seems like complications during pregnancy from a tilted uterus are very rare. And apparently the uterus goes from position to position all the time during pregnancy.
Just curious if anyone else has been told they have a tilted uterus and is problem-free through the second trimester?
I kind of scared myself reading about a condition called "incarcerated uterus" where a tilted uterus becomes trapped in the abdominal cavity and can cause late miscarriage. Eek! Seems that just when you think you are mostly in the clear, there is always something lurking to freak you out ![]()
Re: Tilted uterus?
I'm not sure if mine was still tilted, but I was told at my 10w appointment with DD that my uterus was severely tilted.
No complications at all. She was born at 39w5d (induction) and was a healthy 9lb1oz.
Oh, thank you...Seems like everyone is rocking a tilted uterus. hehe.
Good to know things have gone smoothly for everyone!
Another tilted uterus here--what will happen is that at some point in the pregnancy, the size of the baby will "tip" your uterus into a "normal" position. It will then revert right back to tilted after delivery.
The only problem, as PP said, is difficulty hearing the heartbeat early on.
