We went for Leah's weight check yesterday after her not gaining at her 2 week and definitely not being back to her birth weight. This week we had been bf and then pumping and supplementing after each feed. So we go to the scale and she had lost 3 oz, what the heck!!!!
My pedi was awesome he directly asked me what my ultimate goal was re: bf and wanted to make sure and try to work as hard as we could to accomplish that while still making sure Leah was getting what she needed. I told him that since I will be going back to work that if we ultimately need to EP and then supplement that I'm not totally against that b/c that is basically what would be happening in a couple months anyways. So we agreed that I would pump full sessions to see how much I'm getting and then we have a goal for each feeding (or total oz per day) and if I'm not producing that much then we would supplement with some formula.
I've pumped 3 times since then and have gotten 2.5-3 oz per pump to give her which seem sufficient given her age and amount she needs per day. We have been offering formula after each feeding just to make sure she isn't still hungry and she has taken between 2/3 and a full oz. So she is getting about 3-3.5 oz per feeding. Lord please let this make my baby gain weight!!!!
I'm a little sad that I haven't actually bf her that last few feedings but I just want her to be healthy and to still get the benefits of bm even if it is through a bottle.

I'm sorry it's going so rough.
...and it still boggles my mind that something so "natural" and so good is so freaking HARD for EVERYONE!!!!!!
This exactly. When I struggled with bf issues I thought this to myself so often. Good luck and know that whatever happens you both will be fine.
Ditto and what in the world did people do before there were breast pumps?!? I hope this new plan helps Leah to fatten up some! EPing isn't the ideal situation, but you do what you have to!
I'm sorry Amanda. Feeding issues are so stressful. Ditto Tricia!!
exactly on the "why is this so difficult" and what did they do before pumps, lactation consultants and the other thousand things to help us now???
Now the issue is trying to find a formula that she doesn't spit up everywhere. I know she will spit it up more than the bm but I don't see how she is getting anything between the addtl spit up and the blowout diapers. Seriously we all need an instruction book for our specific child !!
Ditto Mel!
I'm sorry you're having a rough go of it!
