typing up "instructions" for DD

for my MIL and sister, whoever ends up staying here with her when DH and I are at the hospital.  it's really hard to not overstate the obvious, but my sister has NO experience with children.  MIL ran a daycare.  so i'm sure i'll end up offending one or both of them, but i wouldn't feel right just leaving her with them without even a suggestion about meals, sleep, baths, etc.  right?

  • It's always nice to have a reference though so they know how YOU handle things in YOUR house... I say go for it.  Besides I'm sure they'll give you a break since your about to pop out a baby anyway...

I just wanted to say that your daughter is absolutely adorable in this picture!! She looks like she had a blast cooking with mom! :) I can't wait for those days with my LO! :) Congrats!

Oh, and I think its perfectly acceptable to write instructions!!! I would want them if I were watching her. :)

    aw, thank you :)

  • My daughter is 7 and I'm sure I'll be writing up instructions for my mom. Although my list will be more like what time she has to be at the bus stop in the morning and what time she has to be picked up from school. I see nothing wrong with it, and I dont think anyone would be offended.
  • My mom actually prefers detailed written instructions for most things, including DD's care and schedule.  If you're worried about offending, I'd just offer the instructions with a laugh and say, "I know, I'm an overly prepared pg lady," or something like that.  Who can fault a nesting mommy-to-be?
  • It's a fine idea. However, don't be offended if people don't follow every last thing on it.

When my nephew was born, I went up to visit. My sister had to go back in to the hospital, so I was watching my niece (who was almost 3 yo). Anyway, my sis was in the ER all afternoon and evening. When I put Maggie to bed, I asked her how many graham crackers she got with her stories. She said 2. This didn't seem unreasonable so I let her have them.

When my sister found out, she was like "why didn't you read my instructions? What if she had been lying?"

Now, Maggie wasn't lying...she got 2 crackers every night. But if she had been lying and was only supposed to get 1, what was the big deal?

Anyway, my sister was really upset that I didn't use the instructions. I really wasn't trying to upset her. Just be prepared for people to do things their way.
