I think living across the street from a wine store would be the end of me. Then again, I do have 500 bottles in my basement, lol.

If you weren't driving, I'd say a few drinks would make it way less painful.

  • I am taking it easy since I am approaching the end of the 2ww.  I had a glass of wine at our holiday lunch today and I'll have a little more on NYE...or A LOT more if AFshows by then.

  • Hi Sonadora!  I can always count on you for a good wine post.  I aspire to have 500 bottles in my basement, but I'd seriously never get that far unless I bought them all at once :)

I'm eating dark chocolate truffles w/o wine as I test tomorrow.  My consolation prize for AF's arrival will be a bottle of Blackstone Reserve Syrah on NYE.  I'm not sure what DH will get as I'll take the whole bottle.

Oh, for sure it'd be less painful. But DH and I both have to go, b/c 6 people + a carseat (of course!) won't fit in my Civic nor in DH's Ranger.

  • Sonadora - are you in any wine clubs?  We're building up a collection but don't want to drink it as Tuesday-night wine.  But I'd like to get a bunch of inexpensive wine to keep on hand for casual drinking ($10-$15/bottle).  I saw the Wall Street Journal has a club where you get a case for under $100.  I can't remember the price.  I'm thinking of trying it hoping the bottles will be drinkable even if they are not amazing.  Any thoughts?

They are drinkable, but really mass produced given the number of subscribers they have.

  • Thanks.  I hope my hubby does get to drink it, but I am preparing a consolation prize, sad as it is.

Is TJ's wine that good?  We have one in CT near me, but CT has stupid liquor laws and you can sell beer but no wine in grocery stores.  We have package stores (packies as in - packie run if you are 22 or under) that sell beer, wine and liquor and grocery stores beer.  Nothing at CVS, gas stations, etc.

If you tell me the TJ's wine is that good, maybe I'll go to Mass and buy a case.  It would be about an hour drive there but it might be a fun day trip.  Is it the 2-buck chuck that you like?  Do they make more than one kind?

Oh, and to answer your original question, yes, I belong to 8 wine clubs at last count.  :)

  • No, no, no, I don't like 2-buck chuck. But TJ's gets pretty decent wines for cheap. They're good for every day maintenance wines. Hello, my name is Colinda P and I am a lush.

I favor Chilean, Argentine and Australian wines b/c they're more bang for your buck. Well, ok, and I because I really like big ballsy cabs, syrahs, shirazes.

  • 2 buck Chuck is really yucky. And outside of CA it's more like 5 buck Chuck. Not worth it.

The link I posted above is great. They offer a mixed case every month for right around $100.

Hehehe. Depends on if you really like Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley and Petite Sirah. That would be the vast majority of what I have down there, with a good dose of Cab Sauv, Grenache, Syrah, and some other random reds mixed in.

  • Sonadora - thanks.  I'll check out the link.  I need to see what shipping would be to CT.

Colinda - I'm with you on the up-and coming deep reds!  Mmmmm.  That with dark chocolate truffles would be great.  I'll just take the chocolate for now though.

  • Just uncorked my Verdicchio (went w. that rather than the Greco). Thinking of you, Sonadora, I'm drinking and cooking.

  • I'm on Corona with lime #5. DH and I have been having a college flashback week, and he's out getting pizza right now to go with the beers. It's been fun :-) Though nights like this in college at least ended with some bow-chicka-wow-wow. But that's a no no until after my appt. Thursday. Bummer.
  • our neighbor made us cochino (sp?) aka homemade puerto rican eggnog so hitting that a little earlier then new years tonight
  • ::Raises Hand::  A nice big 'ol glass of Shiraz in my hand right now.  Lately every time I get on this board and PG Loss I have a glass of wine in my hand and end up a little sad.  Here's to hoping that none of us will be drinking too much wine for too much longer... to an amazing 2010!!
