Waterproof mattress pad?

Do I need one for a crib?

Re: Waterproof mattress pad?

  • I didn't have one.  The crib mattress I have is sort of vinyl on the outside I think?  So the mattress wouldn't get wet if he peed anyway.   And really, Ben never peed in his crib.  And he only puked once.   Now that we're going to have to start dealing with night potty training, I don't know what I'll do for the toddler bed.  But that's a whole different story.

  • Yes.  You need at least 2 one to wash and one on the bed.  Layer them though too so you don't have to change sheets at night - just pull of a layer to a new one.

Boys are so leaky - you need a ton of outfits/sleepers (3 a day at least for the first 2 months) They either blow out or pee on something regularly. :)

  • I just used a regular matress pad for the crib, the vinyl cover of the mattress keeps messes from soaking in. Once they move to a big bed, it's very important to have a very good waterproof pad.

  • I have a couple and love them. I layer sheets and the pad so if she has an accident at night I can just take off what got wet and not have to make up the bed in the middle of the night.

This. Julia diaper leaks all the time - even in overnights and bigger sized diapers so we're constantly changing sheets and I'm glad to not have to worry about the mattress getting gross

Oh believe me we did the point down thing. Good diapers too but he either would spit up in bed though or soak through (still does sometimes) or poop through. Not all the time but enough to be a PITA if it was in the middle of the night so we just layered. The peeing on outfits was the worst though, I probably had 10 sleepers in every size at least.  Sometimes the washcloth just didn't cover fast enough. I love my "baby" boy though!

Cruz pees himself silly at night these days!  I swear I go through more sheets and waterproof mattress pads than ever before!  We try to limit his fluid intake in the evening but have had several weeks lately where he just pees all over!  The sheets and mattress pad are soaked along with all his blankets.  Crazy!  I would be mopping up puddles of pee if it weren't for my mattress pads.

If you have a convertable crib that you plan to use as a toddler bed be sure to get the waterproof mattress pads because as Jill mentioned you will need them for night potty training!
