TTC After a Loss

Anyone good with taxes?

I'm wondering what we do for last yr's taxes.  Do we claim Sophia b/c she was with us for 7 days in 2009?

We usually do our own taxes on turbotax, so I'd hate to pay an accountant just to ask this one question.

  • I *think* you can claim her.  And if you're not 100% comfortable with that, one thing I've read on here is taking the amount of the deduction and making a donation in her name with it.  Or take the deduction and put it into a seperate extra fund for your next baby for something special.

Yes, you can claim her as an exemption in 2009.  You can begin to claim a child in the year they were born and (sadly) the last year you can claim them is the year they died.  I hate even typing that.  I'm sorry.

  • I think you should claim her. It's not wrong, IMO. And you can def save the money for your next baby, whether you get pregnant on your own or need help, it's going to be expensive.

Thank you so much.  I hate these technicalities that seem so cruel to deal with.

That's a sweet idea.  Maybe I'll donate it to the March of Dimes and their research in SIDS prevention.

  • Just popping in to say hi!  I see that you're starting clomid and follistim soon.  Here's to hoping 2010 is a good year for both of us!
