Talked to DH about CD.....

Yesterday I prepared myself to talk to BJ about CD.  I was pretty sure I was going to have to do some convincing so I had all my arguements ready.  Here was our discussion:

Me: What do you think about cloth diapering our kids?

BJ: That's what I want to do, I had already planned on it.

Me: Surprise (picks jaw up off of floor) You know what that involves right?

BJ: Yes.

I was not expecting my innercity-rasied-in-the-ghetto husband to be aware and on board with cd.  He never ceases to surprise me.  I also talked to Mom about it last night.  She's very excited.  I was showing her pictures of the new styles and how far they've come since she used them for us.  She was shocked, but she still wants to buy the old school ones and pins.  She cracks me up.  My new goal is to be like Jaye and Katie and start stocking up!

Re: Talked to DH about CD.....

  • Pardon my ignorance on this subject, but why would you want to use CD?  It seems to me like is so much work.  I like changing diapers and disposing of them.  Sorry, that's just me.  I've actually had this question in my head for a while.  Is it because it's environmental friendly?

  • There are a couple of reasons.  Its cheaper (MUCH cheaper), it's better for the environment, it's better for the babies butt (DH and I both had super sensitive skin when we were younger) and like Jaye says, they're just so cute :)

Plus they have diaper services that you can hire that aren't too expensive and they take away most of the extra hassle of the process.

  • There is a whole thread below that talks about CD if you want to know why people are doing it.

Esther, that is so awesome.  Timm was onboard as soon as I mentioned the financial aspect of it.  But when I asked him about CD he said, and I kid you not, "As opposed to what?"

Ummm.  Poor Timm.  He has no idea.  He is so excited, yet so clueless.

  • DH had to use CD.  I know my mum also used them.  Me,  am not really sure.  I think I am going to have to go read that thread about them.  But that is great that BJ is on board with the idea.

I have to agree.  I know they are better for the environment, but I love the convenience of just throwing away the dirty diaper.

I will not be CD-ing.  In addition to the convience for me, I would have to imagine that it's probably not standard practice that day cares use CDs.  Unfortunately, I'll be returning to work within 12 weeks so I don't think it's even an option for me.

  • congrats, will you come over and talk to my DH now?

  • Esther-  I'm so happy for you!

Natalie- If you have a doctor's note they have to allow you to CD at daycare.

To the girls who think it is easier to "throw them away" what is the difference between throwing a 'sposie in the garbage or throwing a cloth in a bag to be picked up by a CD service?  (Besides that the 'sposie is going to sit in the landfill for hundreds of years and it is more expensive?)

I don't mean to seem rude by saying that- you know I love you gals...I am just the soap-box type every now and then.  ((SORRY!))
