Please no flames.
I started this pregnancy 8 pounds up from my ideal weight. In the last 13 weeks I'm up another 6. I don't get m/s, I'm just a bottomless pit during the first trimester.
In order to only gain 15-25 pounds this entire pregnancy, I either cannot anymore weight until the third trimester or gain only a little in the next 15 weeks or so.
I really need to diet and exercise to lose weight so I'm trying to gain what I need but not more than that right now.
I'm trying to cut out sweets and cookies, but I need healthy food suggestions.
I'm definitely partial to carbs. I also cannot exercise due issues with incompetent cervix.
Thanks
Re: Need some help-weight maintence during pregnancy
No flames from me b/c I'm in the same boat (except I started out at much more than 6 pounds higher than my ideal weight). I have gained too much already and need to slow it down (the holidays were a killer!).
My plan is to start replacing one meal a day with a healthy salad. I don't want to lose weight, just slow down the weight gain.
I am not too much help because I gained a ton during both pregnancies (hence why I have two babies worth of weight to lose now!), but it sounds like you are doing the right thing. Cut out the sweets and just make sensible choices. When I had to work, the night before I would make myself grilled chicken and whole grain rice for lunch and just heat it up when I was ready to eat. I would try to have an egg white omlette with just 1 piece of cheese (and some veggies) for breakfast. You can have yogurt as snacks or the 100 Calorie Packs. If you like carbs, make yourself a sandwhich the night before (I would heat the deli meat to steaming then make my sandwhich and throw it in the fridge so it was cold the next day when I was ready to eat it). Or I would make BLTs with the microwave bacon (and usually added cucumber to it, yummy!) There are a lot of healthy, non diet options out there...the problem is sticking with them! I was addicted to chocolate when I was pregnant. Good luck! Just try and make the best decisions possible and not worry too much about the actual gain.
How are you feeling?
I started 20 (!!!) pounds over my ideal weight, although I was just at the very end of normal on the BMI chart. I have gained consistently throughout this pregnancy and was up 35 pounds at 30 weeks. Now, I did try to gain weight up front because I am having twins (just in case they came early) by eating lots of cheese. I normally skip cheese because of the calorie content.
I would try to eat things that are high in fiber and protein, but not necessarily high in fat/calories. This is where it's hard for me because I am a vegetarian. If I ate meat, I would have a ton of grilled chicken salads and stuff like that.
Also, your weight gain might slow later on as your stomach gets compressed by the baby.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
According to the BMI calculator, I am either at the very top of normal BMI or slightly in the overweight BMI category. I took the weight gain for the overweight category, but that might be incorrect.
With my twins I gained 25 pounds in 24 weeks (I was trying to do that), and I know how long it took to lose (this is where the extra weight is coming from).
Honestly, I'm more worried about gestational diabetes, that is why I'm trying to eat healthier now.
I can deal with gaining 25 or so pounds, I just don't want to go too overboard.
Try not to stress too much about it and talk to your doc about what weight gain they recommend (i know..easier said than done on the stressing part-now that i am finally gaining and not losing, i am starting to worry already!) I have been making sure to keep myself surrounded with lots of different healthy options to make sure that I have SOMETHING healthy that will sound good when I get hungry. on a typical day, i might bring two or three fruits with me to work, a yogurt, maybe some cheese, wheat thins or some other whole grain salty snack, had to bail on the granola bars because they make me sick, and some no sodium, no sweetener, flavored seltzer water. I also try to keep an eye on portions and have found that i can't eat nearly the amount i used to, i am just hungry more often... I hope you find a method that works for you and keeps you full and satisfied!
you will do great!!!
